Mission: Trade Troubles

On the outskirts of Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, the USS Myogi drew alongside the USS Brunel; the 100 year old Excelsior class starship was longer and narrower than the New Orleans class starship that was 50 years its junior.

Takumi stepped onto the bridge from the turbolift, descending down the steps on the starboard side where Maho was sitting on the raised platform. Of course, with his walking stick, Takumi wished there was a ramp for him to descend instead, like on a Galaxy class.

"Match our speed relative to the Brunel." Maho ordered.

"Yes, ma'am," Jane answered. She quickly inputted the commands into her console and the Myogi slowed to match the Brunel.

"You wanted to see me, captain?" Takumi asked once he had made it in front of the platform.

"Fujiwara; perfect timing:" Maho responded. "Once we make contact with the Brunel, you will be taking over for Sinclair on the helm."

"Aye, sir:" Takumi responded.

"The USS Brunel is hailing us Captain" Ruby said from the Operations Console.

"On screen:" Maho ordered.

The live forward image on the viewscreen was replaced by that of a brown haired Japanese woman wearing a gold Starfleet uniform: The two and a half rank pips on her uniform denoted her rank. Behind her was the layout of an Excelsior class bridge.

"Lieutenant Commander Tainaka:" Maho greeted. "Thanks for taking our call on such a short notice: I take it you were able to get ahold of the parts that I mentioned in our previous communications?"

The young woman infront of her grinned. "Yeah, we got a few things for you. Plus, we're just getting back from a call out, so you timed that pretty perfectly"

"Music to my ears, Commander: Stand by for transport:" Maho responded, closing the channel. "Sinclair; you're with me: Fujiwara will take over your responsibilities on helm while you're away. Commander Misono; since you brought this matter to my attention; I believe it would be fitting if you saw this through to conclusion as well. Keisuke; you have the bridge."

"Aye." Keisuke responded.

Ichika nodded silently in affirmation and proceeded to follow Maho to the turbolift.

The third one in the turbolift, the door closed behind Jane. "Deck 16," she ordered, and the lift began moving. Jane stood with her back to the wall as the lift moved, a bit uncomfortable in the silence, especially given their height difference.

"So, tell me; Commander:" Maho began. "What interest does a famous singer such as Alexis Silverstar hold in a New Orleans class starship named after the least important mountain of Jomo on a time-sensitive mission?"

"In regards to what Lieutenant Reno has informed me, Ms. Silverstar is the head of a charity that provides grants to smaller ships who lack the resources necessary to adapt their spaces for specialized functions," Ichika recounted. "Since she's reportedly close friends with Lieutenant Reno, she has access to some of Ms. Silverstar's funds in case of a situation where she felt that one of our facilities needed updating."

"I wonder if she meant Five Forward; given how Lieutenant Reno persuaded us to move the after party to the aft lounge instead of there." Maho speculated.

"It could be argued that the venue was due for an update," Ichika pointed out. "Lieutenant Johnston has identified several fittings from the previous lounge that date as far back as 2382."

"If Senpai were still here, he would have not only stopped this renovation dead in its tracks, he would have thrown the person who instigated it off the ship." Maho said. "He always liked to keep the lounge original; and that's the way I've grown to like it as well, so the jury's still out on whether or not I support this surprise renovation."

Jane kept silent during the exchange about Silverstar, but then spoke up about the lounge. “Captain, if I may…I’ve heard some of the junior officers and enlisted personnel. Some are cross and want the original, but most have been happy to hear about the renovation.” She then blushed, realizing the degree to which she’d contradicted her commanding officer, and hoped desperately for the turbolift to reach Deck 16.

"Your opinion is noted; Lieutenant:" Maho said. "The original blueprints for Project Jomo are stored at Memory Alpha; we'll let Lieutenant Reno have her fun with the renovation, and when we're due in for our next overhaul, we'll revert it back to Senpai's specifications, just like it was when K.T. and I got engaged." Her tone was indicative that she had no plans to keep the new lounge long-term. There was even a hint of bitterness in her tone undoubtedly aimed at Lieutenant Reno for taking away the Five Forward she knew.

It didn't take long for the lift to reach its destination. Moments later, the three were in Cargo Transporter Room One, nestled between two Cargo Bays. Jane stood off to the side of the transporter pad, ready to receive the incoming parts.

"Status of the Brunel's transporters?" Maho requested.

"Transporters powering up," the Bajoran at the controls nodded. "Preparing to beam over the supplies, zura."

Within a few seconds, several parts materialized on the transporter pad, among them a small-scale warp coil relaminator and a disassembled warp field stress simulator.

"Lieutenant;" Maho addressed Jane. "Will you be able to work with these parts?"

"Yes, ma'am," Jane said, smiling as she inspected their haul. "I'll work with Engineering and Ops and get these installed in the shuttlebay maintenance corner right away. We'll be at 100% by the time we reach the Neutral Zone."

"Splendid:" Maho said. "I'll be sure to thank Commander Tainaka for the trouble before we get underway."

As Maho turned to leave the transporter room, she tapped her combadge.

=A="Takahashi to Fujiwara:" =A= She began. =A="Prepare to lay in a course for Y'Tem. Warp 8."=A=

=A="Aye, sir;"=A= Takumi responded. =A="Plotting course for Y'Tem at warp 8."=A=

A few minutes later, Maho arrived back on the bridge. Keisuke, who had been sitting in the command chair, stood up as soon as his wife arrived back, effectively ceding control of the bridge back to her.

"Ops; open a channel with the Brunel." Maho ordered.

The image of Lieutenant Commander Tainaka appeared once more on the viewscreen:

"Lieutenant Commander; you'll be pleased to know that we'll be able to work with the parts that you sent us." Maho said. "We very much appreciate the assist."

"My pleasure Captain" Ritsu grinned back. "Go easy on that ship, she's not as old as the Brunel, but she's still getting on in years"

"Understood, Commander: I will be sure to keep that in mind:" Maho responded. "Best of luck to you and your mission, Commander Tainaka."

Terminating the channel, Maho looked over to Takumi on the helm.

"Fujiwara; bring us around and prepare to make the jump to warp 8."

"Aye, sir;" Fujiwara said. "Bringing us around to make the jump."
