Physical Description Lieutenant Kujo is a tall, muscular, and fair-skinned humanoid with waist-length, pale blonde hair, with a small amount pulled into a side bun. She often flouts Starfleet Dress Code by wearing a Navy Blue Jacket with a “Union Jack” design (harkening back to her native England) over her regular Starlfeet flight uniform. This jacket has often become a point of contention between her and her superior officers, as she has been written up on numerous occasions for “open violation of dress code regulations,” but nonetheless puts the jacket back on when their backs are turned.

Due to her upbringing in North Eastern England, Lieutenant Kujo speaks in a thick “Geordie” dialect, even when speaking in the Universal Language.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Lieutenant Kujo is a “gung-ho” sort of individual who charges into risky situations with a rebel yell. Though her superior officers can sometimes have difficulty reining her in, she is fiercely dedicated to the cause and often proves an invaluable asset to any crew she is paired up with. She is also very affectionate with her friends (and, to lesser degrees, total strangers) and strongly values her friendships.

Lieutenant Kujo has been fascinated with Japanese culture since she was a little child, and Japan has subsequently become one of her favorite places to spend her shore leave; she owns a navy blue Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 replica (decked out in her signature “Union Jack” livery, of course), which she uses to tour the Japanese countryside.

In spite of her laid-back attitude, many are often surprised to find that Karen hails from an upper-class family.
Strengths & Weaknesses + An ace pilot, if somewhat brash at times.

+ Dedicated to the Starfleet cause.

+ Charismatic and loves to make friends.

+ Wealthy.

- Openly flouts Starfleet Dress Code.

- Occasionally makes perverted comments.
Ambitions Lieutenant Kujo aspires to live life to the fullest, and to that end is constantly in search of adventure and excitement.
Hobbies & Interests -Touring the Japanese Countryside: Lieutenant Kujo is always on the hunt for something new and exciting to do when she visits Japan, so many a shore leave is spent cruising up and down the mountain roads of Japan in search of a new experience. She’s even challenged (and beaten!) a handful of street-racing organizations purely for the hell of it, and has even earned a bit of notoriety as the infamous “Union Jane.”

-Anime & Manga: She was introduced to the medium by her childhood friend, Alice Cartelet, and has built up a rather sizable collection of books, shows, and collectible figurines in her father’s basement (much to her father’s annoyance). Her favorite genres are usually action-oriented, like Mecha and Dark Fantasy, but given the mood, she does like to unwind with a fluffy Shojo manga from time to time. She even has a few “Old World” prints that survived the Great Manga Crackdown of the 2020s— some of the more valuable pieces in her collection.

-“Old World” Brit Rock: Pink Floyd, The Police, Genesis, Def Leppard, Blur, Muse… All of the best!

Personal History

Personal History Karen Kujo was born on December 1, 2363, to wealthy Japanese businessman Satoshi Kujo and his British wife, Kimberly. She grew up in New Whitely Bay, an upper-class neighborhood in North Tyneside, where she attended preparatory school. It was here that she met and befriended Alice Cartelet, an older girl whom she admired for being bigger than her at the time. The two remained very close throughout their childhood and prepubescence, though when Alice’s father began hosting Japanese Exchange Students (which, in turn, led to Alice developing an interest in Japanese Culture), Karen began to feel increasingly neglected. After one such instance in which Alice was trying to teach herself calligraphy and Karen couldn’t get her attention, the younger girl wandered off in frustration, but accidentally fell off a bridge and broke both her legs. She wasn’t discovered until several hours later, when a rather concerned Alice happened upon her and quickly contacted emergency services. The incident led to Karen developing a great deal of respect for the older girl, whom she viewed as a hero in light of her rescue. From then on, Karen became insistent that she go wherever Alice went.

Shortly after Karen graduated college in 2381, she discovered that Alice had submitted an application to Starfleet Academy’s Tokyo Campus, where she was looking to earn a degree in Stellar Cartography. Wanting to join Alice in Japan (in spite of the fact she had never been interested in joining Starfleet before), Karen promptly set about applying for Starfleet Academy herself. It took her a few tries, but her third submission was eventually approved, and she finally enrolled at Starfleet Academy’s Tokyo Campus later that year.

Karen was initially planning to go into the field of Stellar Cartography, much like Alice, but only a few months into her studies, she came to the realization that Stellar Cartography was mind-numbingly boring. Alice recommended she change her course of study to something that would interest her, and taking her advice to heart, Karen took a placement test to determine which fields she would possibly excel at. To her surprise, she found that she exceed at piloting, and deciding it would be a much more exciting line of work, she spoke with her counselors to have her field of study altered accordingly.

Fortunately for her, Karen was appointed one of the best pilots in the Federation as her instuctor: Lieutenant Commander Phyllis D’Lar, an El-Aurian who had been with the Federation since nearly the beginning. Though she exhibited a bit of recklessness early into her studies that got her into her fair share of trouble (including wearing her “Union Jack” jacket over her cadet uniform, which went against Starfleet dress code), but once she warmed up to piloting, she excelled under Lieutenant Commander D’Lar’s teaching, and graduated with honors in 2385.

Though initially wanting to be deployed alongside Alice, she was greatly disappointed to find that the older girl had been assigned to the Galaxy-Class USS Silver Stallion (NCC-71654), while Karen herself had been assigned to the Nebula-Class USS Sōryū (NCC-72501). Though Karen was unsuccessful in having her position transferred to the Silver Stallion, Alice promised to keep in contact with Karen whenever she could, which Karen reluctantly accepted as the second-best alternative.

While her commanding officers aboard the Sōryū often criticized her for her brashness in combat and frequent insubordination of the dress code, she quickly won over her fellow pilots for her exuberant, devil-may-care personality, earning her the informal nickname of “Union Jane” (a moniker which would eventually become synonymous with Karen throughout her numerous deployments).

In 2388, in response to heightened Son’a piracy in the Beta Quadrant, the Sōryū was dispatched to escort Federation-allied frigates that were determined to be “High-risk” targets for the Son’a. During one such assignment, their convoy was ambushed by a raiding party, and the Sōryū’s flight wing was scrambled to meet the threat. During the heat of battle, Karen pulled a risky maneuver to protect her Squadron Leader—a courageous gambit that ultimately saved her squadron leader’s life, and culminated in her promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade.

In 2390, as the war on Son’a piracy began to wind down, Karen felt it was time for a career change and decided to apply for the position of Squadron Leader. Unfortunately, no such positions were available on the Sōryū, but her squadron leader did refer her to the Akira-Class USS Majestic (NCC-64325), which was seeking out pilots after half of their contingency had been transferred to the Armitage-Class USS Tokyo (NCC-91101) to oversee the training of new pilots. Compared to the multi-purpose Sōryū, the Majestic was a high-profile carrier with penchant for being stationed at the front lines in high-risk situations, and boasted dedicated fighter compliment to boot. Karen was hard-pressed to pass up the opportunity, and applied for transfer at the first available window. She was a little disappointed to find that the Majestic did not immediately offer the position without at least a year’s experience as a Deputy Squadron Leader, but the command staff was willing to grant her that position as the next-best alternative, and would revisit the matter of promoting her to full squadron leader in a year’s time. With the promise that the position was almost guaranteed, Karen decided she could wait a year and accepted the conditions of her transfer.

Karen finally got her chance to become full squadron leader in 2391 when her immediate superior was offered a position aboard another Armitage-Class ship, the USS Oceania (NCC-91102). Her squadron found it somewhat difficult to adjust to Karen’s leadership, but they soon came to respect her all the same.

In 2393, the Majestic was called in as part of a small Task Force assigned to mediate a territorial dispute between the Cardassians and the Breen over who lay claim to a set of colonies situated along their border. However, diplomatic relations quickly broke down, and the Majestic suddenly found itself in the midst of heated warfare between the two factions. Naturally, the flight wing was scrambled to quell hostilities, and Karen quickly rose to become the hero of the hour when she led her squadron to disable a compliment of Breen fighters twice the size of their own. For her heroism in the battle, Karen received a promotion to full Lieutenant.

In 2395, the Majestic arrived at Earth Spacedock to undergo a scheduled resupply. While she was laid up, Karen received word that the entire flight wing of the USS Myogi (NCC-65918) had resigned in disgust following a radically uncivil display of conduct propagated by the ship’s (now-dismissed) Commanding Officer, Tanaka Miyahara. Though the Myogi’s new Commanding Officer, Maho Takahashi, had nothing to do with Miyahara’s misconduct, the fact remained that the Myogi now found itself with a deficiency of fighter pilots and was in dire need of re-staffing. Capitalizing on the vacancy of positions as her opportunity to try and move up the ladder, Karen filed a request to be transferred aboard the Myogi as its new Squadron Leader, which almost immediately approved due to a lack of applicants.
