Welcome aboard the USS Myogi!

"Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected." -Steve Jobs

Star_Trek_Myogi_Mission_Patch_Alternate_PNG (1).pngThe year is 2396.

In the early 2380s, Starfleet recognized the need to modernize the New Orleans class of starship, which dated back to the early days of Project Galaxy in the 2340s. The refit initiative was led by Captain Tanaka Miyahara, a distinguished veteran of the Dominion War whom at the time Starfleet trusted to be capable of leading them into the future.

The initiative was dubbed "Project Jomo," and was an extensive top-to-bottom modernization of the New Orleans class. When brought up to Project Jomo spec, a New Orleans class starship would be able to keep up with contemporary starship designs. The first two ships of Project Jomo, the USS Myogi and USS Haruna, were launched in 2382 and have been in service since.

The USS Myogi is the lead ship of Project Jomo, and is currently commanded by Captain Maho Takahashi. The USS Myogi is not your "typical" Starfleet ship: Instead of 'exploring strange, new worlds' and 'seeking out new life and new civilizations'; the Myogi has a job rarely seen in Starfleet: Upholding law and order within Starfleet, to ensure commanding officers hold up to Starfleet's high standards, and if they falter, to hold them accountable for their actions.

Welcome aboard the USS Myogi; a ship that has gone through hell and back, but like the mountain she was named after, remains defiant against all odds.

The USS Myogi is currently serving in Theta Fleet, attached to Area 51, and is commanded by Captain Maho Takahashi: We are a play by Nova Star Trek Roleplaying Game and are rated 222 or "18+" due to content:

To All Crew:

First of all, I'd like to welcome back a former player to our sim: Please give Absinthe, our original Chief Medical Officer, a warm welcome back as they rejoin us, this time as Crewman Recruit Lyric Lake. The Myogi has changed a lot since Absinthe was last aboard, and I look forward to seeing what Lyric might bring to the table!

Absinthe is not the only thing returning to the Myogi, however. Anybody else hear that theme music?

Love, exciting and new. Come aboard. We're expecting you...

That's right, folks: After two years off the air, The Love Boat returns for a second season! Given the positive reception to me annually reopening our Christmas side mission, I've decided to give The Love Boat another chance. I believe that two years later, we are far more established and have a much more active community than the rough first season that was hampered by the sim's launch occurring near simultaneously. I have confidence that exciting and new life will be breathed into this side mission.

So, come one, come all and take your summer cruise on the holodecks of the USS Myogi! And enjoy more relaxed posting requirements during this optional side mission's run: Exclusive to The Love Boat, all posting requirements that have gone into effect on October 16, 2023 will not apply. Though we do encourage that all posts pertaining to this mission be wrapped up by Labor Day, or September 2 for our players outside the US.

Like last season, all positions that were open before remain as such:

Your Captain: Maho Takahashi
Your Ship's Doctor: Available
Your Yeoman Purser: Available
Your Bartender: Available
Passengers: All are welcome to play along as passengers or NPC passenger holograms

The Starlight Lounge channel on the Myogi Discord will soon be reopened for discussion related to this mission. The Love Boat promises something for everyone, and I look forward to seeing what this renaissance might bring!

Until next time, happy writing, and I'll see you on the Pacific Princess!

» New Mission and New Season

Posted on Mon Feb 5th, 2024 @ 6:54am by Captain Maho Takahashi in General News

To all crew:

The conclusion of Operation Tokyo Return brings not only the mission to a close, but the season and our first mission arc to a close. Nearly 3 years of writing has lead to this moment, and I'd like to thank all players, past and present, who helped shape our sim into what it is today! I couldn't have done it without you!

Of course, as is tradition at this point, any posts that are still in progress will roll over into our next mission, and should be labeled as backposts if they are set during this one.

Our next season is going to start off on a different kind of note; one which will be dealing with themes of intense racism towards certain ethnic groups:

Jim Crow in the 24th Century? Surely an absurd thought!

Yet, for the citizens of the Gamma Zednor system, under the administration of Governor Ambrose Hartley, it is but a fact of everyday life. In recent years, Gamma Zednor's government has passed a series of xenophobic laws restricting the rights of citizens of Japanese descent, and enforcing a strict segregation system.

These "Junichi Koyama" laws as the have come to be known by, fly in the face of the Federation's values of equality, and now, following the destruction of a Federation outpost in the system, Governor Hartley is among a growing number of planetary governors seeking to leave the Federation altogether.

When the USS Myogi is dispatched to the Gamma Zednor system to assist the crew of the USS Akagi in negotiating with Governor Hartley, the crew discovers firsthand the cruelties of Junichi Koyama, with not even Captain Takahashi being safe from xenophobic ridicule.

When Governor Hartley proves he cannot be reasoned with, the two Starfleet crews are swept up into a conspiracy to assassinate Governor Hartley so that his more moderate deputy governor would be sworn in. A more moderate governor would mean potential repeal of the Junichi Koyama laws, but moreover, might guarantee Gamma Zednor's continued Federation membership. However, Starfleet personnel involved in such a plot would be seen as a violation of the Prime Directive at best, and (if the plot were to fail) treason at worst.

With Gamma Zednor's future at stake, the two Starfleet crews must make a choice: Stand by the Prime Directive and risk Gamma Zednor potentially falling to the Confederacy of Independent Planets, or intervene in the affairs of others to guarantee its continued Federation membership and the undoing of its political backsliding.

Sounds quite intense, doesn't it? This mission has been in the works for years, and I'm looking forward to where it takes us!

But first, we have the usual end of mission mumbo jumbo to go through:

Participation Points

Before we get into the awards, I'd like to take a moment to touch upon your Participation scores for Operation Tokyo Return. And I'm happy to report that you've all passed with flying colors! I asked for a simple goal of 3 participation points for each player, and everyone has exceeded it, in some cases well exceeded it. Great job, everyone!

Tanaka Miyahara Ribbon of Excellence recipients:

-Commander Ichika Misono
-Lieutenant Commander Kurumi Ebisuzawa
-Lieutenant Commander Brennyn Scott
-Lieutenant Ami Rori
-Lieutenant JG Max Gill
-Lieutenant JG Jane Sinclair
-Lieutenant JG Connor Talmage

I see quite a few first time winners on the list, as well as a few returning recipients. Well done and congratulations to our final winners of the Tanaka Miyahara Ribbon of Excellence!

...Well, as the Tanaka Miyahara Ribbon of Excellence. As hinted at before, it's quite inappropriate to have our sim's highest honor named after our sim's villain, wouldn't you agree? As such, moving forward, our award for exceeding expectations will be known as the Maho Takahashi Ribbon of Excellence!

Essential NPC Award recipients:

-Captain Taiga Aisaka
-Captain Mikoto Misaka
-Commander Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke
-Commander Keisuke Takahashi
-Commander Chiyomi Anzai
-Lieutenant Terrence Johnston
-Ensign Ruby Kurosawa
-Ensign Miyoko Misaka
-Crewman Recruit Hanamaru Kunikida

Bit of a drop off from the last two missions, but the creative use of NPCs still deserves to be applauded! Fortunately, the Essential NPC Award will not be changing names and will still be the award you know and love.

Tokyo Return Award recipients:

-Commander Ichika Misono
-Commander Victor Delling
-Lieutenant Commander Kurumi Ebisuzawa
-Lieutenant Commander Brennyn Scott
-Lieutenant Ami Rori
-Lieutenant JG Max Gill
-Lieutenant JG Jane Sinclair
-Lieutenant JG Connor Talmage

Each and every one of you participated in our mission, so well done and congratulations!

And lastly, over the course of this mission, our second Theta-Versary came and went, and while I was a bit late on the draw, I did eventually credit our remaining crew who have stuck with us from our old fleet for two incredible years in Theta Fleet!

The Voyage Home Medal of Appreciation recipients:

-Commander Ichika Misono
-Lieutenant Commander Brennyn Scott
-Lieutenant Ami Rori
-Lieutenant JG Jane Sinclair
-Lieutenant JG Connor Talmage

Thank you to our recipients for two years of service.

And a hearty congratulations to all of our award recipients!

Once again, thank you to everyone, past and present, who helped make the Myogi's first season such a success story. Here's to another three years of strong writing!

2021 storming of the United States Capitol DSC09254-2 (50820534063) (retouched).jpgTo all crew:

3 years ago today, on January 6, 2021, an angry mob of former US President Donald Trump's supporters attacked the United States Capitol Building in Washington D.C. in an attempt to prevent Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 US Presidential election and formalizing the victory of President-Elect Joe Biden, the culmination of a seven-part plan by Trump to overturn the election.

If this sounds familiar to any of you, that's because it is: Our mission Insurrection was based heavily on these events. When I first created the Myogi as a sim, I had planned out that this was going to be a sim-changing event. In a sense, this was my way of processing what had happened that day by posing the question "what if something like this happened in Star Trek?" Evidently, it was a compelling enough premise, considering I wound up bringing by my calculations 11 other people along for the ride.

dadandcommodore64.jpgToday is also a difficult day for me personally, as five years ago today, I unexpectedly lost my grandfather, John Henry Koscher, at the age of 74. Born shortly after World War II had come to a close, John was an original Star Trek fan and overall sci-fi enjoyer, having watched The Original Series on its original run. It's no surprise, then, that his love of Star Trek would rub off on his daughter, my mother. And while I never had the opportunity to share Star Trek with him, as I only became interested in the franchise after his passing, I'm sure he would be quite proud of how far I've come as a Star Trek fan, leading others in our shared passion for this franchise. Perhaps the Myogi might even be his favorite ship... Next to the Enterprise, of course!

"You have been, and always shall be... My friend. Live long and prosper, John."

Thank you for reading

» Captain's Christmas Address 2023

Posted on Sat Dec 23rd, 2023 @ 11:24pm by Captain Maho Takahashi in Out of Character

MahoXMas23.pngTo all crew:

First and foremost, allow me to preface this by saying well done to another fantastic year on the USS Myogi. Whether you've only been with us for a few months or for several years, the continued success of this sim is all thanks to our combined dedicated efforts!

While we've not had the amazing posting numbers like other games in the fleet this year, we've still managed to consistently score the silver UOD for Area 51 all year long, and frankly, that should be something we should be proud of. The Myogi has transcended what it means to be a Star Trek RPG on the internet, and we've become a close knit group of friends- dare I say family, who enjoy writing together, and while we might not write the most in any given month, we are very consistent. Each and every one of you is a joy to write with, and I can't thank all of you enough for your continued efforts and support throughout the year.

With the congratulations aside, I'd like to take a look back on 2023, as it was quite eventful for Myogi:

2023 started off with a bang, quite literally, for us, as I and Commander Misono underwent a life changing event: A cross-country move, uprooting from Chicagoland, which I had called home for the first 22 years of my life, and moving down to Central Florida. And while I was dealing with it, you all found a way to preoccupy yourselves in the meantime, and for it, our pilot, Jane Sinclair, won Writer of the Month for Area 51 in January two years in a row!

That was followed up in February by the Myogi making the honorable mention list of the 2022 simming prize. I was stunned and honored that an RPG I started going on 3 years ago had made enough of a name for itself that one of the simming community's top honors had taken notice, and no doubt the Myogi will once again see a nomination for the Prize.

April brought about an unexpected and pleasant turn of events: While I was about to secure employment here in Florida, we were joined in Theta Fleet by another former Pegasus Fleet sim which we had shared our brief tenure in Pegasus Fleet with: The USS Poseidon. I had briefly served on the Poseidon before it became collateral damage from our... Forced migration to Theta Fleet, and the captain and crew have welcomed me back with open arms. I even have a credit on the Poseidon's credits page!

Beginning in May, and dragging on until October, we tried an experimental mission; paying tribute to one of my personal favorite Trek episodes and anime series, and while the few of us who did participate in that mission had a blast, unfortunately, I really have to call it a successful failure, as the mission failed to achieve the widespread appeal I was hoping for, and as such, I had to abridge the mission and cut content to keep the sim moving. Believe me, it's as difficult for me to say that The Fast & The Fleet could have been so much more than what we wound up getting as it probably is for you to hear it.

Which brings us to today; about to celebrate in less than 48 hours' time the Nativity of Jesus Christ, and a little over a week away from 2024. Really, there's only one more thing left for me to say, and that's to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. From me and Commander Misono in central Florida to wherever in the world you might be freezing, have a safe and wonderful holiday season!

The USS Arizona (BB-39) burning after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor - NARA 195617 - Edit.jpg

"Yesterday, December 7, 1941; a date which will live in infamy: The United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan."

It was these words, spoken almost 82 years ago by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to a joint session of Congress on December 8, 1941 following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor the previous day that officially drew the United States into World War II, the deadliest conflict in Human history. We take this time to remember the brave Americans who lost their lives that terrible day, giving the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. As long as we continue to remember them, these men will not have died in vein.

Today here on the Myogi, we write in the universe of Star Trek; a utopia shaped by those who made sacrifices before us. Though I might have said this only a couple weeks earlier on Thanksgiving, thank you all once again for your participation and involvement in building a better future, even if it's only fiction.
