Personal History

Personal History Yoshiko Tsushima was born on July 13, 2373, in the Sendai region of Japan. Her mother, Midori, was a cultural instructor affiliated with the Bajoran Refugee Program, which helped in integrating Bajoran families fleeing from the ongoing Dominion conflict into human society. It was through this program that Yoshiko was introduced to Hanamaru Kunikida, a Bajoran refugee around her age, who would remain Yoshiko's only friend for the longest of times, though she did secretly harbor a desire to expand her circle of friends.

During middle school, Yoshiko overheard one of her classmates discussing the idea of setting up a live-streaming site. After doing some research on the industry, she eventually reached the conclusion that live-streaming was the ideal means to gaining the attention she was craving. To make her stand out from the thousands of other live-streamers out there, Yoshiko crafted an online persona known as "Yohane", a fallen angel who had angered God for her laziness and was cast from the heavens, her soul bound to an indiscreet humanoid vessel as she awaited the opportunity to redeem herself. She exhausted a great deal of resources into developing her "Yohane" persona, designing all her costumes, writing an extensive character bible detailing all of "Yohane's" mannerisms, and even conditioning her voice to be of a deeper pitch.

When she finally debuted as "Yohane" on GameThis!.com, it wasn't long before her streams began to garner an audience. However, what she couldn't have anticipated was that several kids at her school recognized her as "Yohane," and she began adapting her persona outside of her streams in order to impress them. Unfortunately, while this did garner their attention, she was disheartened to find that they admired her almost entirely for her fictional persona, rather than the "real" girl underneath; this left her feeling unfulfilled, with several hundred followers, but very few she actually considered to be friends. She actually considered "killing" the "Yohane" persona on several occasions, but each time she had to reckon with the possibility that becoming "normal" would inevitably cost her followers, she instead doubled down on her persona, to the point where it almost nearly consumed her.

As she entered high school, Yoshiko's stress levels were beginning to have an effect on her grades, and her mother warned her that she would personally pull the plug on Yoshiko's channel and have her double down on her studies if she had to repeat a grade. The threat of losing her fans was enough to spur Yoshiko into action, and as a means of making up for her lackluster grades, she elected to follow Hanamaru into her school's "Idol Club." It was through this club that she was introduced to Ruby Kurosawa, a British/Japanese girl with a penchant for logistics. Though Yoshiko found Ruby to be somewhat naive and easy-to-impress, she was inevitably surprised when Ruby expressed her admiration for the attention to detail she had poured into her "Yohane" persona, rather than for the persona that she presented to other. For the first time since Hanamaru, Yoshiko had someone who embraced her for who she really was, rather than for simply being "Yohane." From that point forward, Yoshiko's streams began to grow less frequent (she was still rather active, of course, as it was a decent source of revenue), her grades and improved, and the three of them had a relatively happy high school tenure.

When the three of them graduated high school in 2391, Ruby expressed her intentions to go into Starfleet, electing to follow in the footsteps of her older sister, Dia. After giving it some consideration, Yoshiko and Hanamaru decided that they would follow suit, as Starfleet offered its fair share of benefits, and even serving a few years in the Federation would open a wide array of career opportunities. Unfortunately, while Ruby had no trouble getting her application approved, Yoshiko and Hanamaru both flunked the application process--twice. Following their second failed attempt, the two of them began searching for alternate ways to get into the Federation, and their research led them to pursing an enlisted commission instead. While not as coveted as that of an officer, it would still come with its fair share of potential benefits.

This time, the two of them were accepted, and their aptitude tests guided them towards the field of organization and logistics. Following two years' training at the Utopia Planetia fleet yards, Yoshiko and Hanamaru were assigned to the USS Myogi (NCC-65918), whose Operations department was in dire need of staffing following a command shakeup. Upon reporting in, however, the two of them were shocked to discover that their department would be headed none other than Ensign Ruby Kurosawa, herself assigned to the Myogi out of dire circumstances.
