Personal History
Personal History | Seiji Iwaki was born on June 6, 2352 to Ayano Iwaki. Unknown to her husband and son; Seiji had been conceived while Ayano was being held prisoner by the Tal Shiar. Still, Ayano and her husband Daisuke decided to raise Seiji as their own, with Seiji coming to view Kimito, the couple's son, as a brother. That was, until Seiji was in his early 20s, when he began to suspect that perhaps Daisuke wasn't his actual biological father. Seiji requested to take a DNA test with Daisuke to see if they matched. The test results confirmed Seiji's suspicions: Daisuke was not Seiji's father. In fact, Seiji's actual biological father was a Tal Shiar agent named Vochrom. Seiji was furious that his mother had withheld the truth from him, despite Ayano's insistence that it was 'for his benefit:' When Seiji was 23, he got in touch with Vochrom's widow, Kirula; who revealed to him that Vochrom had been killed by Klingons when Seiji was a teenager. When Seiji pressed to see if he had any more family on Romulus; it came to light that Vochrom was no stranger to sleeping around, as Kirula had been his second wife, and while married to her, he had a mistress named Selu, whom he had fathered a daughter with. Even Kirula herself had been the mistress while Vochrom was still married to his first wife, and she speculated that it was likely only a matter of time before Vochrom would have divorced her and married Selu After discovering that he had quite a lot of family on Romulus, Seiji became curious on how his biological father met his end. However, the Tal-Shiar was one of the tightest-lipped organizations in the galaxy, and refused to divulge any detailed information on Vochrom's death. When Seiji was 24, after failing the Academy entrance exams 3 separate times, Seiji was accepted into Starfleet Academy on the fourth attempt, entering on the Diplomatic track. During his Academy tenure, he took a particular interest in Klingon politics, attempting to decipher how they ticked. Seiji graduated from the Academy in 2382 at the rank of Ensign, and was assigned to the USS Breckenridge; an old Ambassador class tasked with patrolling the Federation-Tholian border. Seiji was not-so-secretly furious that he had been assigned to somewhere not near the Klingon border, even though it had been determined that he wasn't in the best mental state to be assigned to a ship on the Klingon border. Regardless, Seiji managed to secure the rank of Lieutenant JG within a year of graduating. In 2384, the Breckenridge was reassigned to the Cardassian border; and several members of the ship's diplomatic attachment; Dominion War veterans with reservations about working along the Cardassian border, requested to be reassigned. With the diplomatic detachment shorthanded, Seiji was appointed the Assistant Chief Diplomatic Officer. Seiji performed the job dutifully for several years until 2387, when the USS Irohazaka, under the command of Captain Kyoichi Sudo, teamed up with the Breckenridge to investigate a possible Cardassian biological weapon. Sudo took notice of Iwaki's talents, and as he was in need of a diplomatic detachment for the Miranda class starship's next assignment; he requested that Seiji be transferred to the Irohazaka as his Chief Diplomatic Officer, offering Iwaki a promotion to full-Lieutenant as an incentive. Though the Irohazaka was arguably even older than the Breckenridge, Seiji agreed, as he just couldn't pass up an extra half-pip. When the Irohazaka departed on its mission; Seiji learned that this assignment would be along the Klingon border, which made him more than excited at the prospect. Six years after leaving the Academy, and Seiji was finally about to deal with Klingons for the first time. Though Sudo didn't necessarily approve of Seiji's 'Cowboy Antics,' Seiji did do his job honorably. In fact, the most honorably he had ever done the job. In 2391, Sudo's executive officer accepted her own command. After the younger officer had left, the El-Aurian captain sat down with Seiji and offered him the chance to be first officer, as during his most recent years as Chief Diplomatic Officer, Seiji had exhibited qualities Sudo looked for in a first officer. Seiji quickly and eagerly accepted the job, and with it; a promotion to Lieutenant Commander. In 2393, the Irohazaka responded to a distress call from the USS Nikko; a Nebula class Starship named after Seiji's hometown, which had been attacked by Klingons. However, when the Miranda class starship arrived at the scene, the Nikko was found adrift, with almost all crew dead. The few survivors were beamed aboard the Irohazaka before another Miranda class arrived to help the Irohazaka tow the Nikko back to the nearest shipyard for repairs. Once the Nikko was in drydock, and repairs had commenced, Sudo revealed that he had submitted Seiji as a possible candidate to succeed the Nikko's captain whom had been killed in action. At the time, Seiji was no stranger to Nebula class starships; as his cadet cruise had been aboard one. Seiji was honored just to be considered, and he was even more surprised when fleet command ultimately appointed Seiji as the Nikko's new commanding officer, for lack of a more qualified officer to take command. Once the repairs were complete, Seiji's orders were to continue the Nikko's mission along the Klingon border. In 2395, Seiji began stopping Federation-bound Klingon ships and inspecting their cargoes; despite the fact that most freighters had no contraband to hide. About several months into his campaign, Seiji got wind of Captain Taiga Aisaka's Acquittal in regards to the mass murder at Alvatar, and he understood that such an acquittal opened the floodgates, and was an indication that he could now do whatever he pleased, provided he hired the Federation's top lawyers in his defense. Besides, who was going to stop someone who was fighting the good fight; defending free trade within the Federation? |
