Personal History
Personal History | Kurumi was born in Kyoto in Japan, on Earth. Her family was a normal family. Her mother worked at a local high school as a teacher and her father was a Starfleet Engineer at the San Francisco Fleet Yards in orbit of Earth. Often her father would come home late from work, but he insisted that the family stuck to certain traditions. One of these traditions was to eat dinner as a family at the table. Often Kurumi and her mother would wait for him to come home before eating. Her father enjoyed hearing about their days and for him it was 'family time' and a break from his job. At age seven Kurumi showed an interest in Japanese Martial Arts. She started to attend classes at a local dojo. There she learnt the basics of Aikido. Aikido is a form of martial arts which uses the opponants strength against them and takes skill and concentration to pull off. By aged 12 she was a fourth dan black belt and often assisted in teaching others at the dojo, especially younger children. Throughout school Kurumi was shown to be smart and clever. She often got high grades and even though she wasn't at the top of the class, she wasn't in the 'average band' of students. At age Eighteen she graduated from the same high school her mother taught at. Her mother had been her home room teacher in third year, causing her a little bit of embarrassment. However Kurumi wasn't sure what she was going to do. One night after graduating, her father came home later than usual. That evening he had already told both her and her mother to eat before him. They had done so, but Kurumi couldn't sleep so she waited up for her father. When he returned home, she brought up the topic of what to do. He told her that she should do something that she loved, and something she was good at. He joked that she should join Starfleet, her skills in Akidido would make for a good security officer. Of course, he didn't expect his daughter to take that seriously. She applied for Starfleet and a few days later travelled to San Francisco to take the entrance exam. A few weeks later a letter arrived addressed to her, a starfleet emblem on it. She had been accepted. Kurumi wasn't expecting this at all. That was an interesting evening at the table. She brought it up casually that she had been accepted into Starfleet. Her father had dropped his fork and her mother nearly choked on her rice. However after the sheer astoishment had worn off they accepted it and started to support it. Starfleet Academy was interesting for Kurumi. She was accepted into the officer program and her first year of basic training was all about learning the basics of working and serving on a Starfleet Ship. She studied hard, buckling down with the books. It was at the Academy that she would meet her future partner, Daiki Tachibana. By the second year Kurumi had been accepted into the Security and Tactical course to specialise and major in Starship Security and Tactical Operations. Meanwhile Daiki Tachibana had been accepted into the Engineering Division. They didn't often see much of each other in the day, but often bumped into each other around campus. In 2386, Kurumi graduated Starfleet Academy and was assigned to the USS Vermillion as a junior security officer. The Vermillion was an older Excelsior Class and was often on patrol runs along the Romulan Neutral Zone and policing space traffic lanes. After two years she was put up for promotion and was happy when she was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. In 2388, Kurumi was transferred to the USS Amesbury, an underpowered and much older Miranda Class Starship. She was surprised to find Daiki there too, working in Engineering. At the time of her transfer, she had also been promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. Once again the Amesbury was assigned along the Romulan Neutral Zone as tensions between the Federation and Romulan Star Empire were starting to rise once again. However, for Kurumi she enjoyed this assignment. With being on such a small ship, her and Daiki started to become closer. It was one night after about six months that Daiki actually confessed his feeling to Kurumi. She hadn't realised it, but she had felt the same way. They wasted no time and entered a close relationship. However that changed only six weeks into the relationship as Kurumi discovered something that would change her life forever. She was pregnant and the father was Daiki. She knew that her parents were still very traditional, so she opted not to tell them about her pregnancy. They still believed that marriage should come before sex and children. In 2389, she gave birth aboard the Amesbury to a boy. She was over the moon with having a child of her own, even if she was a secret from her family. They named him Hiroshi, and a few weeks later, Daiki asked Kurumi to marry him. She of course said yes and was looking forward to having her own little family. Four years later, Kurumi had been freshly promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was now the assistant Chief Security/Tactical Officer of the Amesbury. Her promotion happened just after Hiroshi's fourth birthday. That is when it all went wrong. The Amesbury was ambushed by a Romulan Ship that had decided to disobey orders and attack any Federation Ship it could find. The ship was battered and easily overpowered. When the order to abandon ship was given, Kurumi rushed to grab Hiroshi. She witnessed as a Romulan torpedo ripped open the hull of her quarters where Hiroshi was hiding in fear. She was stuck behind a containment forcefield as she watched her young son was sucked out into space whilst she was unable to save him. Engineering was also destroyed and she also lost Daiki when the whole compartment was destroyed by weapons fire. This changed Kurumi. She was literally dragged kicking, screaming and crying into an escape pod. The Amesbury was destroyed. Kurumi remembers to this day the name and commander of the Romulan Ship that killed her fiance and son. She made a promise to herself that if she ever encountered that ship or commander again, she would take revenge on them and do to their families what they did to her. It was this sort of thinking that sent Kurumi into a depression. She decided to carry on. She knew that Daiki wouldn't want her to drop everything in grief. They both knew the risks of wearing the uniform. So she assigned aboard the USS Gallimimus. She continued as her role as Assistant Chief Security/Tacticalm Officer. However she was now more dedicated to peoples safety and took everything very seriously. She was known at times to be strict, cold and sometimes ruthless in how she did her job. Kurumi was sometimes feared as a security officer, however she was more and more alert. This didn't go un-noticed and she was pulled into Captain Kay's office to explain why she was like this. She told him about the Amesbury, about her Son and her Fiance and how she would never let that happen again. Luckily, Captain Kay understood and allowed her to continue with her job. He made a note in her file that her job was the only thing keeping her together mentally. He also referred her to the ships counsellor. She spent the next two years aboard the Gallimimus before she was approached by Starfleet Security. They had noticed her and she was asked to teach at Starfleet Academy. The position came with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Eager to get out of space, Kurumi accepted. However she found teaching at the Academy hard. She was sometimes a little too harsh on her students. She discovered that she wasn't very good at teaching, also she was constantly reminded of her time on the Amesbury. Therefore she put in for a transfer back to a Starship. It was after she finished at the Academy she was picked up by Commodore Honda and placed as Chief of Security aboard the USS Myogi. With the recent public scandel of Admiral Miyahara, she had a job on his old ship to ensure that any evidence against his betrayal and treason wasn't covered up or destroyed. Once it was all over, she was requested by Captain Takahashi, whom had taken command of the Myogi to stay aboard. She served aboard the Myogi as Chief Security/Tactical Officer. After about a year in 2396, Kurumi was leading an away team down to the planet Gamma Zednor. The entire colony was under the leadership of a corrupt governor. Kurumi was captured purely due to being Japanese and 'asking too many questions'. She was also discovered to be a Starfleet Officer and interrogated for her security codes for the Myogi. Whilst in the 'detention center' she discovered a young girl called Yaeka being held there alone. Yaeka was the daughter of an opposing family, the Sakuragi's. They has all died in an 'accident' which was actually murder. She had survived after her house had burnt down and being held. Officially she was declared deceased. Kurumi began to feel the maternal instincts kick in and started to bond and get closed to Yaeka. However Kurumi tricked them and gave them codes she had already programmed into the Myogi's computer. This caused the Myogi's weapons to fire on the transmission point. She managed to escape with Yaeka and take her back to the Myogi. Although civilians weren't allowed on board she made sure that Yaeka was properly treated. She was malnurished and weak and the Myogi's Chief Medical Officer determined that she would have passed away if left in that cell in at minimum a week. Yaeka was attached to Kurumi, as any young child alone and defenceless would be. Therefore Kurumi decided to formally adopt Yaeka as her daughter. Although she felt as if she was replacing Hiroshi at times, she is doing her best to ensure that the remainder of Yaeka's childhood is filled with happiness and love. She has not intention of letting Yaeka go to someone else, she saved her and she now considers her as her daughter. After a few days she was formally adopted by Kurumi and is now living with her aboard the Myogi. |
