Mission:
Christmas Vacation
Location: USS Myogi
And so it was that the Chief Flight Control Officer and Chief Intelligence Officer returned from their Christmas holiday on Earth. A few days on Earth, enjoying a Christmas meal with the Renos, speaking on subspace with Mrs. Sinclair, and seeing the sights that Earth still has to offer, revitalized Jane and Alisha in ways that no ordinary holiday would, even if it was enforced by outside circumstances.
The official report would say that Lieutenant junior grade Jane Elisabeth Sinclair fully cooperated with the investigation and that the smuggling ring on Proxima Centauri II was dismantled. Both of these facts were technically true, even if they required a stretch of imagination. Regardless, Master Warrant Officer Ellen Sinclair would never again send anything illegal by the post, especially not to her daughter, no matter how insignificant the item might be. Lieutenant Tristana would receive a commendation for her efforts. Lieutenant jg Reno would be referenced as being involved in the case, but nothing further would be said. A cursory examination of Jane’s formal file would not reveal the arrest, though one closely examining the case records might see that she was in custody for a time.
A few hours after the investigation was officially closed, the Earthbound (once again called Shuttle 19535) was once again in a Starfleet Intelligence shuttle pool, and Jane and Alisha were back aboard the Myogi via the Ankō. They greeted the captain and security chief, gave a quick report of what had happened, and returned to their duties (with a few extra undesirable tasks for a few weeks as a slap on the wrist; nothing unreasonable, thought Jane). They were relaxed, and ready to return to normal.
Jane would certainly go on to feel a bit hostile toward Tristana, knowing what she did about the woman (there was diligent, and then there was what she experienced). Still, she would be a consummate professional, and she would work alongside her would-be oppressor, just as she was sure Tristana would work alongside her, a would-be criminal.
Life would go on.
And most important of all: no one would speak of these incidents again.
