Myogi Newsletter - October 2023
Posted on Mon Oct 16th, 2023 @ 6:50am by Captain Maho Takahashi
To all crew,
Mercifully, The Fast & The Fleet is finally over! Starting today, we shall be getting back into the Trek side of things with our new mission, Operation Tokyo Return!
Having beaten Shimakaze at her game, the crews of the 3 Project Jomo ships can now focus on the task at hand: However, things go wrong almost as soon as the "important guests" beam aboard, revealing themselves to be Captain Taiga Aisaka and Lieutenant Commander Ryuuji Takasu of the USS Tokyo.
Tensions run high, as the last time Captain Aisaka was aboard the Myogi was shortly after the attack at Alvatar, and Captain Takahashi has not been quick to forget the hurtful things Aisaka said to her, and the disastrous events, including her spoiled first wedding, that followed. And now, Starfleet expects Maho to ferry Taiga to Beta Antares, where the Tokyo has been undergoing repairs.
Will the Myogi be able to make it to Beta Antares without Maho revealing how she truly feels about Taiga? Can Maho stop Keisuke from doing what he feels he should have done after Alvatar? And will there be right wing extremists along the way bent on finishing what the rioters at Starfleet Headquarters started?
I don't know about you, but I'm finally looking forward to us getting back out there! Hopefully, this simple transport mission won't bring about any unforeseen complications... ;)
The end of another mission means yet another round of crew awards! Things were a little slower on the sim this mission, and we have less award winners as a result:
Starting with the sim's highest honor, the Tanaka Miyahara Ribbon of Excellence... Probably should rebrand that at some point, shouldn't I? :p
Tanaka Miyahara Ribbon of Excellence recipients:
-Commander Ichika Misono
-Lieutenant Commander Kurumi Ebisuzawa
-Lieutenant Alisha Reno
-Lieutenant JG Jane Sinclair
Congratulations to our recipients for going above and beyond expectations over the course of the mission!
Essential NPC Award recipients:
-Commodore Tohru Honda
-Captain Shimakaze Zh'gero
-Commander Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke
-Commander Keisuke Takahashi
-Commander Elisabeth Churchill
-Lieutenant Commander Tristana
-Lieutenant Karen Kujo
-Lieutenant JG Takumi Fujiwara
-Petty Officer 2nd Class Mai Ichihara
-Petty Officer 3rd Class Shingen Miyazawa
-Petty Officer 3rd Class Kiyohara Kabuto
-Takeshi Nakazato
The Essential NPC Award has been the one crew award to see an identical number of recipients compared to last mission. Though some winners from last time once again make the board, others have made it for either the first time or the first time in a long time.
I should, however, give credit to the fact that NPC usage took a different form this mission: Many of the characters used this mission did not have profiles explicitly created for them, instead being more one off characters used under existing registered characters. Such was the case for most of the opponents, who were used under Shimakaze's character.
NightKids Award recipients:
-Commander Ichika Misono
-Lieutenant Commander Kurumi Ebisuzawa
-Lieutenant Commander Brennyn Scott
-Lieutenant Alisha Reno
-Lieutenant JG Jane Sinclair
Congratulations to our recipients who were willing to take the plunge and try something new!
Before I cap off the crew awards segment, I want to take a moment and give an honorable mention to Lieutenant Paisley (mUra) F'rar, our Chief Engineer who joined following the dismissal of our previous Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Commander Brandon Pratt. Paisley jumped right in and got involved in our mission, and would be eligible for both the Tanaka Miyahara Ribbon of Excellence and the NightKids award. However, Paisley left the sim shortly after the final battle concluded. As such, this probably marks the first time in our sim's history that a potential award winner, through their own actions, has been relegated to a simple honorable mention.
And on that terrible disappointment, congratulations to these and all of our award recipients.
And lastly, I wanted to bring attention to a major overhaul to our rules page that I teased in my previous news item. However, now that we are officially beginning Operation Tokyo Return, these changes are now taking effect.
Starting with the smaller of the two pretty big changes, starting today with Operation Tokyo Return, I will be strictly enforcing a four day tagging window. Everyone who is currently listed as active is going to be expected to respond to tags within that window, and I will no longer tolerate people simply logging in and not tagging. If you can log in, you can tag.
Second, I have introduced a brand new policy: Starting today, we the game staff shall be using a points system to track player activity. That system is called Participation Points or PP (and yes, I know that's a funny abbreviation: Behave yourselves!)
But what is PP?
Well, in short, Participation Points are used by the game staff to track user activity, and accruing them will guarantee a user's place on the sim for the next mission. Earning participation points is easy. When I mention in an OOC comment in a group jp that the post is points paying, all you have to do is tag into posts like it within four days of either an open tag dropping or you receiving a tag in the post.
There are also other ways to earn Participation Points: Publishing a solo post or joint post with another player will earn all writers involved Participation Points.
A good writer should never have to worry about their Participation Points balance. However, it's a good idea that you review the policy and familiarize yourself with the consequences should you come up short. If you have any questions about this policy, don't hesitate to reach out to myself or Commander Misono.
So, for this mission, the trial run of Participation Points, I want to start with a nice and simple goal to work towards. As there are only 3 major plot points that will require the entire crew, the passing grade for Operation Tokyo Return will be 3 Participation Points.
And that concludes the rather long-winded newsletter for this month. I hope you all are as excited to be getting back to the Trek action as I am!
Regards,
-Captain Maho Takahashi
