The Next Myogi
Timeline: After 'More of the Tokyo's Table Scraps'
After the briefing, Kurumi returned to her office. She sat behind her desk and tapped on her computer console. "Computer. Bring up the record of Marine Captain Elizabeth Beurling..."
[30 minutes later]
The screen went blank as the Chief of security turned it off. She tapped her comm badge. "Captain Beurling. Please report to my office. Deck eight, section six. Security Office."
"Understood: Beurling out." Came Liz's response.
A few minutes later, the office doors snapped open, and Liz strode in, stopping to stand to attention as the doors snapped shut behind her.
"You wanted to see me, Commander?" She asked.
The first thing immediately noticeable on first impressions was the baby bump that the Marine Captain was rocking. Liz's facial expression was also indicative that a similar meeting she had already had hadn't gone as well, and she was hoping that this one would go better.
Kurumi blinked a few times. She hadn't been expecting that. "Yeah, take a seat. We need to go over a few things..."
"Sure," Liz said, taking a seat, but noticing that Kurumi was continuing to stare intently at her: "What is it? Do I still have vomit on my face?"
The question was indicative of just how her previous meeting had gone.
"No..." Kurumi replied. "I want to discuss how my security team and your marines are going to operate on this ship. The last thing I want is for both departments to be 'butting heads'."
"Of course," Liz nodded. "The last thing either of us wants is for the MarDet to get in the way of the regs, and vice versa."
"Indeed." Kurumi replied. "I want to make my position clear to you. The Marines are not a security force. Unless you are desperately needed in such situations, all security matters on this ship are handled by me and my teams." She stated.
"Likewise, security should not partake in surface assaults from here on out, unless we need the extra manpower." Liz responded. "My marines are specialized in facing the enemy head on, and if a reg gets in the way, it could be catastrophic for them."
"As I would expect." Kurumi stated. "However, it is often security that accompanies away teams. In a situation where we have to work together we need to establish a clear chain of command."
"I suppose rank would be the easiest to go off." Liz said. "I'm at marine Captain, which puts me below you at Lieutenant Commander... I've done some things I'm not proud of on my previous assignment, and they've likely set back my hopes of making Major for a good while... Probably not until after little Timmy here is born."
Liz stroked her belly, calling attention back to it in doing so.
"You served on the Tokyo right?" Kurumi asked. "Well, why not tell me about it. I know I'm not your superior, but the more I know about you the better we can work together don't you think? The Tokyo is an impressive ship, she outgunned this ship by a considerable margin."
"Her real teeth lies in her expansive fighter wing." Liz said. "She's like one of those ships from older works of Sci-Fi that can show up and deploy a massive swarm of starfighters and throw them at an enemy. Then, if they weren't beaten into submission enough already, that's where me and Lieutenant Colonel Shimada would come in and clean up with our Marine Detachment. I tell you, in the wrong set of hands, one of those Armitage class ships might be able to subjugate an entire planet, or at the very least, do some major damage to one."
"I took the liberty of looking into the Tokyo's manifest." Kurumi said. "It looks like Major Shimada left the ship at the same time as you. That will place you next in line for Marine Commander. Quite a prestigious assignment on a ship like that. Why did you transfer?" Shevasjed curiously.
"Strategic importance:" Liz responded. "With everything going on with the Iconians, the corps felt that putting someone with firsthand experience with Iconians on another ship would hold strategic value."
"Ok." Kurumi said. "So you've fought these 'Heralds'. Tell me, what exactly are we facing?"
"Practical gods." Liz replied. "They're tall and wispy, and possess technology greater than you or me can comprehend. I watched them teleport in, cut through a bunch of us like we were butter, and teleport out with Captain Aisaka... If I'm honest, I'm still not entirely sure how or why they returned both her, Commander Johnson, and our away team we had launched before... Well, I'm sure you've heard about what happened next?"
Kurumi shook her head. "All we've been told is that there is now a Dyson Sphere that belong to the once thought extinct Iconians in the Iconia system. And that it's off limits to all ships due to them being hostile. Oh and that Starfleet Command is predicting that they may attack us in the name of conquest." She explained. "All other details are classified. I did however trick our Captain to name the ship which is... what's the best word... responsible." Kurumi smirked. "And since everything about them is highly classified, I've had to come up with ways of finding out that information, like tricking Captain's..." she winked at Liz.
Liz smirked.
"Well, supposedly, the Dyson Sphere was located in the Andromeda galaxy, and somehow, they managed to 'relocate' it to the Iconia system." She elaborated. "But, if all that stuff is classified, you didn't hear that from me." Liz added with a wink.
"Of course not." Kurumi said. She pulled the comm badge off her chest and placed it on her desk. "Go on. Tell me more..."
Following Kurumi's lead, Liz proceeded to remove her own combadge and place it on the desk.
"In all honesty, I'm still not sure how it was done." She admitted. "Everything was just shaking so much that it was hard to focus on what was happening. I did get to briefly hold one of their weapons, though: Death spear is the best term I can use to describe it. It was this spear like weapon that fired purple beams of energy that far as I can tell were lethal to anything it touched. Didn't seem to have any kind of power setting or anything like that either."
"And when I said practical gods earlier, that's apparently what they think of themselves as." Liz continued. "Because literally the first thing out of their... Whatever it is they use to speak- was accusing us of defying a god... Even though we were the ones acting in self defense."
"Oh, and did I mention their teleportation technology?" Liz asked. "I'm not sure if it's transporters they're using, but if it is, it sure doesn't look like any transporter technology I've ever seen before."
"Yet, you're still here alive." Kurumi said.
"Indeed I am." Liz nodded. "Because they were seriously about to kill us all... And I suspect that they will sooner or later."
"Is the rumours true about them taking a d later returning your Captain?" Kurumi asked. "Why would they want to take a Starfleet Captain only to return them later?"
"Yes, it is true that they abducted Captain Aisaka before returning her, Commander Johnson who had been MIA since the mission we were on before we came across the Heralds, and our entire away team which we had sent out earlier." Liz began to explain before getting a feeling she was retreading water she had already treaded: "Wait, didn't I already go over that? I'm pretty sure I did."
Kurumi nodded. "Do you know how though?"
"Well, before I do, any chance we could put this discussion on hold really quick so I can get something to replenish my electrolytes?" Liz asked. "I'm started to feel dehydrated from earlier..."
"Help yourself to the replicator." Kurumi said.
Getting up, Liz strode over to the replicator.
"Pedialyte, mixed fruit." She ordered. The replicator beeped in acknowledgement in within moments, Liz's drink had materialized.
Grabbing it from the replicator and taking a sip, Liz made her way back to her seat.
"Lieutenant Colonel Shimada and I went over this after the dust had settled." Liz continued. "She was leading an away team from the Tokyo to find what we thought was the omega molecule powering the Dyson sphere, and instead, she came across a war room which seemed to outline the Iconians' attack plans... But, if we back up for a second... Right before we encountered the Iconians, we were facing the Elachi... You heard of them?"
"Oh yeah. I've definitely heard of them. Fought them too. Nasty bastards." Kurumi said.
"Well, I got captured by them, along with a couple other... expecting officers on the Tokyo, and from what I could gather, the Elachi were working on something to sterilize people." Liz said, stroking her belly. "To prevent something like this from happening again."
"Sterilisation?" Kurumi said in surprise. "Why though? Did you ever find out?"
"Nope." Liz sighed. "They didn't find me of use because I've got a hybrid baby in here..." She stroked her belly once again.
"So they were only interested in Humans is what you're saying?"
"Yes, they took our, um... Pregnant doctor... Off for further experimentation." Liz said. "Apparently, she had what they were looking for. I can tell you whatever they did to her messed her up pretty bad, though. When I left, she was still recovering."
"Thats very concerning." Kurumi said. "Especially with the current condition of our Captain."
"Believe me, that wasn't lost on me when I reported in." Liz responded. "I think she's actually in a similar condition to Captain Aisaka at this point."
"Similar condition?" Kurumi asked curiously.
"Captain Aisaka is expecting a child too." Liz explained. "That's going to be fun the next time they and their kids cross paths..."
"Is there something in the water or something..." Kurumi sighed. "Anyways. Thanks for the information. Is there anything else you want to share? Before we go back on the record?"
"Nope, I think that about covers it..." Liz said. "At least, it covers what I know, anyway..."
Kurumi pinned her comm badge back on her chest. "Well then Captain. I look forward to working with you in the future." She said giving her a slight nod.
"I take it that's everything, then?" Liz asked as she followed suit and pinned her own combadge back on.
"We watch each others back and we don't step on each others toes. If we can do that, then yes." Kurumi said.
"I think that's an arrangement I can live with." Liz nodded, standing up to leave. "Permission to be dismissed?"
Kurumi simply nodded. "Dismissed."
