Mission:
The Next Myogi
Location: Beurling's Quarters
Timeline: Part 2 of 'Still Got It?'
Previously, on Star Trek: Myogi:
Liz sighed, and her expression was one of sadness for what could have been, yet also she found herself involuntarily blushing out of shame. It shouldn't have mattered, anyhow: They were gone, and she was on a new ship where she hardly knew anybody, but such an admission that she had blatantly betrayed another woman's trust and had gotten knocked up out of the deal was sure to raise a few eyebrows among her new shipmates.
Ami looked down on the floor with the shared embarrassment of the admission by Liz, not sure how to respond to that last comment. After a few seconds of silence, she finally found something that she hoped wouldn't sound too horrible, "It takes two to tango." She said simply, "So it's absolutely not your fault alone, I'd even say it's more his fault than anyone's, especially if he were married to someone else." She finally allowed herself to look up at the Marine.
And now, the continuation:
"But what the hell was I supposed to do?" Liz remarked. "Let my Pon Farr kill me?? Because at the end of the day, that's what it boils down to: I made a selfish..."
Liz trailed off and immediately made her way to the bathroom as she felt a bout of morning sickness coming on. Within moments of Liz exiting the main room of the quarters, the sounds of retching and vomiting could be heard emanating from the bathroom area.
Ami blinked once and without thinking quickly bundled her own hair and expertly wove it into a very messy bun to get it out of the way before following Liz into the bathroom and crouching next to her, using a couple fingers to move the strands of loose hair well away from any vomit and rubbing Liz's back. As she spoke, she sounded like someone else talking while using her voice, "Oh dear, I do hope that I wasn't the cause of this, added stress and anxiety.. This isn't an easy thing to go through, but don't worry, it'll get better... Or worse, each one is most definitely a bit different."
"Ugh..." Liz groaned, spitting some of the excess phlegm into the toilet. "Not like I plan on having any more after this one... But, I can assure you, Lieutenant that you didn't bring this on..."
Liz hadn't been expecting the officer she barely knew to be supportive. Usually most took their leave at the first signs of retching, at least that was how her former roommate treated the situation, and Liz had grown used to suffering alone, so this simple act of compassion was a breath of fresh air.
"My first was the worst of my three," Ami continued on in a voice was was soothing and in a calm and settled sing-song course. She reached for a hand towel and handed it over to Liz without missing a beat from the gentle backrub, as if she'd been through this before, "This is the very worst of it, the surprise of it all for the first time, but the end result? All worth it to hold them close. We want to make sure you stay hydrated, one of the most important things especially after one of these events."
The look in Ami's eyes changed ever so slightly as she blinked again and her tone of voice rose a noticeable fraction to her normal, the backrub hesitating for a moment before continuing in a hesitating motion, "I um.. Speaking of that, can I get you something to drink? Waters always good, especially with electrolytes, but milk is also soothing if it comes back up?" She ended on an upward and relatively questioning note, as if remembering something but not quite sure of it.
"Water would be nice." Liz responded. "Throwing up like this always leaves my throat on fire."
"Water it is." Ami gave a gentle pat on her back, "Be right back." She rolled back onto her heels and to her feet before heading back out and to the replicator and dredged up a memory not her own and punched it into the replicator. Almost immediately, a glass of water with a barely-there hint of mint to it, but it was a little fortified with the electrolytes she had mentioned. She brought the glass back and crouched down again, handing it to Liz, "It's definitely not fun at all."
Barely there didn't mean not there at all, and when Liz went to take a drink from it, the weakened scent of mint caught her nostrils and triggered a gag reflex, and her stomach was immediately turning itself inside out once again, as Liz wretched violently, but hardly anything came up from it. Meanwhile, the drink splashed onto the bathroom floor after Liz had dropped the cup.
"Great..." Liz muttered as she felt the liquid soaking into her pants. "Now everybody's going to think I peed myself too..."
"I am SO sorry... Mint was the only thing that really helped me.. I mean, Trillian, when she was pregnant with her three.. It's supposed to be really soothing and calming.." Ami had grabbed a towel and was mopping it up, even as she whisked the cup out of the way, I really wanted to help, I didn't..."
"It's okay, Lieutenant: It's the thought that counts." Liz responded. "Right now, you're ranking higher on my list than anyone else on my previous assignment... Well, aside from maybe Lieutenant Colonel Shimada... Point is, you've given more craps about my morning sickness ridden ass than most everyone else on my previous assignment did. Usually, if I felt a bout of morning sickness coming on, I could expect to be left alone to suffer..."
"What, they didn't treat you like an actual person over there?" That did shock Ami, she'd always been treated like another sentient, even if people had made snide comments about her sleeping habits over the last couple of years, "Well, you don't have to worry about that here on Myogi, we ARE a family here and as they say, we don't leave family behind. Is there anything you know works with your particular set of morning sickness? If not, I can try to find something that may work.. I don't want to mention what Trillian used to crave, it was different for each of her kids and one of them was really, really weird.."
"Honestly, not something I want to be thinking about right now." Liz responded. "Timmy's very hard to please when he causes my morning sickness, to be honest. Sometimes, it's just water, others it takes ginger ale or lemon lime soda."
"Well, let me try again, this time, I promise I won't let myself be influenced by an inside party." Ami gave a tenuous smile before she once again went to the replicator, this time making sure it was just plain water rather than any additives at all. She REALLY wanted to make sure that Liz kept hydrated, the rest could wait if needed, "Here you go," She said as she returned.
Accepting the cup of water, Liz downed it easily.
"Thank you, Lieutenant:" Liz responded. "I'm sorry that this is the way I'm welcomed into the Myogi family, but I've got a feeling I'm going to like this assignment."
“That’s my hope too, but seriously, call me Ami, at least when we’re not in front of someone all high up on the food chain?” The engineer couldn’t help but smile wanly, “Besides, having someone with a bit of knowledge about motherhood, even at an odd direction of it, who doesn’t wear a small galaxy of pips? Could come in handy at times, no?”
"I'm sure it will, especially as Timmy here continues to throw me surprises." Liz responded. "Oh, and you can go ahead and call me Liz... Again, anytime rank is instructed to be left at the door."
