1,119 words; about a 6 minute read

Mission: The Fast & The Fleet
Location: Ready Room, Deck 1

With the Myogi now underway towards Y'Tem, Maho was looking forward to at least a week at warp. Though, before the subject slipped Maho's mind until she was looking like she swallowed a full watermelon; there was one person she was fairly close to that she hadn't broken the news to yet. She figured it would be safe to tell them about it, since she knew they weren't in danger of blabbering about it to the whole crew.

... Not like it really mattered anyway, considering half the damn crew probably already knew or suspected, what with the constant puking and everything...

"Computer; open a secure communications link to Miho Nishizumi." Maho ordered.

The image of a younger woman with lighter brown hair but similar eyes and facial features appeared on the screen a few minutes later. "Erm. This is unusual?" Miho Nishizumi replied as she loosened her gold collar which sported two full rank pips. "I wasn't expecting a call, something up?"

"Sorry for the abrupt call, Miho:" Maho responded. "But with all the crap that's happened recently, I figured it'd be best if you heard about it from the source."

Miho raised an eyebrow at her sister. "What have you done now Maho... wait, what have I done now?" she asked nervously.

"Unless you've been doing something illegal, Miho, then it's nothing I need to know about:" Maho giggled slightly. "Now, you've met K.T. before, right? Spiked hair, broad shoulders, drives a sweet vintage car?"

Miho nodded. "Yes of course I have" she replied simply.

"Well, you'll be pleased to hear that he and I finally tied the knot..." Maho explained. "Twice..." She muttered in a lower tone.

"So I heard" Miho smiled back at her sister. "You do remember that you invited me right... If I wasn't away on a mission I could have come back. But you know how it is, we can't drop everything when we're deep out in space"

"I believe I did send an invitation your way." Maho said. "I was going to ask you to be my maid of honor, but like you said with the whole deep space thing. Erika just happened to be closer at hand because she had just come off a Parrises Squares tour."

Maho waved a hand dismissively.

"But, that's beside the point;" She added. "Anyway, there's something more that I don't believe I told you back then:"

Maho drew in a deep breath before continuing:

"Miho, you're going to be an aunt." She said.

Miho blinked a few times, a little surprised at the sudden news. "Ok... So... You're pregnant...." she continued to stare. "Does mum know?"

"Not yet." Maho responded. "Everything since I found out has just happened so fast that I haven't had the time to tell her..."

"Whats happened?" Miho asked curiously.

"Well, what should have been a routine corruption bust turned out to be anything but:" Maho explained. "A corrupt captain who abused my best friend and berated me personally for obeying orders won her freedom, and Senpai was forced to resign and now he's claiming the trial was corrupt and stolen. I was falsely accused of involvement and temporarily demoted, and, as a result of that whole shit show, the Myogi is now mine."

Miho sighed. "You're talking about Captain Aisaka aren't you?" she asked knowing the answer already. "Sorry sis, but I'm with Aisaka on this one. She did what was right, and I watched that trial, it seems the Tal Shiar were upto dirty tricks again. The Tokyo was just in the wrong place and the wrong time" she paused for a moment.

"You can't blame her for Miyahara's actions. He did what he thought was right, even if they were a little... intense; so I hear"

"But, it just wouldn't be Senpai if it were any other way." Maho said. "Though, don't you think Captain Aisaka is just a little bit responsible for all this right wing extremism? I mean, you don't have to listen to any right-wing news outlet for very long without hearing 'Taiga Aisaka didn't win.' Personally, I think mistakes were made and continue to be made by both sides. Maybe you don't agree, but I have to hold out hope that this can't be the Miyahara I met back at the Academy."

"It probably wasn't" Miho replied. "As for the Aisaka thing. I saw she responded to a Distress Call, that wasn't hers to take. But she did what she thought was right, its not her fault she fell victim of Romulan Politics"

"It seems like we're all falling victim to Romulan politics." Maho sighed. "I thought we were better than this, but it seems I was mistaken. I'm sorry, Miho, that the galaxy we live in is more fucked up than I realized."

Miho raised an eyebrow. "So..." she said changing back the topic. "When is my Neice or Nephew going to be with us?"

"Currently I'm looking at a due date sometime in August." Maho said. "We don't know the gender quite yet, because I'm only six weeks along."

Maho sighed.

"Anyhow, I think this conversation has drug on for long enough." She said. "Evidently, we both have work to do."

Miho nodded. "I'll arrange to meet up with you on my next shoreleave." She smiled back. "Just don't try to piss off the entire galaxy before then sis..."

"You do realize that with the Myogi's line of work, pissing off corrupt-ass motherfuckers is my job, right?" Maho responded with a smirk.

Miho sighed. "Language sis! Like seriously!" She replied. "Don't be raising your baby with that sort of language."

"Okay, fine." Maho sighed. "But I make no promises that childbirth will see clean language."

Miho simply smirked. "I'm sure. Also, make sure you tell mum. You know what she's like. Frankly I'm glad you're pregnant, it stops her nagging me about it. Apparently I was the one more likely to have children first," she said with a smile.

"I'll be sure to let mom know." Maho replied. "Heaven knows I have plenty of time at warp to do so. Goodbye, Miho."

Maho then pressed a button on the desk, terminating the connection; and Miho's face was replaced with the Federation symbol. Maho then sat back in her chair and sighed. She knew Miho was right, and she'd have to face the music that was their mother eventually. Hopefully the fact that she and Keisuke were married now would soften the blow:

"Computer, open a communications channel to Shiho Nishizumi." Maho instructed.
