2,230 words; about a 11 minute read

Mission: Insurrection
Location: USS Myogi

Stepping out onto the bridge, Maho immediately began to bark out orders as she made her way over to the command area:

"Helm, bring us up to warp 9, and keep us there as long as possible." She said. "Ops, open a channel with the Nikko."

Ichika raised a brow. "Warp 9? With all due respect, Captain, that speed is only reserved for emergency situations-!"

"This IS an emergency situation, Commander!" Maho responded.

Ichika appeared to be skeptical of Maho's allegation- especially with no further details given- but given the sense of urgency in Maho's command, Ichika hardly felt she was in a position to argue.

“Warp nine, aye Captain,” Jane said. The thrumming of the ship increased as the ship sped up to reach home more quickly. She found herself concerned about the emergency.

"Switch over to Red Alert," she ordered, shifting her attention Over to Ruby. "And get us in touch with the Nikko, pronto."

"Opening communications with the Nikko" Ruby responded quickly as she opened a channel between the two starships. m

The image of Lieutenant Commander T'Vena appeared on the Myogi's main viewscreen.

"Commander, I take it you've received the communique as well?" Maho asked.

"We have." T'Vena responded. "It is unfortunate that we are working around the clock, to use a human phrase, busting our asses to maintain our current speed."

"Understood." Maho said. "We're speeding up to get there faster. We'll see you when you get there."

"Understood." T'Vena said. "Good luck, Myogi."

When the transmission ended, Maho moved on to the next step:

"Computer, display FNN's live coverage on the main viewscreen." Maho said. "Furthermore, filter audio and video throughout the ship: The whole crew needs to know what we're flying into."

Acknowledging Maho's inputs, the computer switched the main viewscreen to FNN's live coverage at Starfleet Headquarters, with a live aerial shot showing the premises overrun by protestors.

The bridge crew could look on in horror as they attempted to process what they were presently bearing witness to.

"My God... what the hell is going on down there?" Ichika gasped, nervously shifting her attention from the viewscreen towards Maho.

"Our worst fears have been realized." Maho muttered, the shock now beginning to set in. "Hell has just been unleashed, and I'm afraid I know the man responsible..."

On the Nikko, Brandon was in shock at what he was seeing and hearing. The situation was untenable as the Fleet Headquarters was overcome with mass protestors and demonstrations of insubordination.

As he was on the Nikko, they would be arriving at best, behind the USS Myogi. Once the engines were initiated, there was less internalized damage to the systems than realized. He wanted to be with the Myogi and support them at this time. Time was of the essence.

Ruby was monitoring the transmissions herself. "Its not just on FNN, but als other outside sources" she reported. "I can confirm this footage is live, and there is a lot of chatter on all subspace bands. Even some of the Starfleet Frequencies are clogged with it..." she said with a sigh.

“Oh no,” was all Jane could say as she watched the viewscreen in horror. “Captain, I’ll push warp nine as long as possible. I think we can hold it until we reach Sol.” Even if Brandon and I have to push, she thought.

Ruby looked over towards Jane. "Don't worry..." she said softly. "I'll divert you some extra power for the warp engines," she smiled.

“Thanks,” Jane replied just as softly. “Confirmed, Captain,” Jane added, louder. “We’ll get to Earth at best speed.”

"Thank you, Lieutenant:" Maho said, turning to Ichika. "Commander, schedule an emergency senior staff meeting in 30 minutes. We need to make sure everyone's on the same page."

"Aye, Captain," Ichika nodded in the affirmative.

As Ichika made her way towards the turbolift, Maho stood up from the command chair and turned to Keisuke.

"The bridge is yours, Commander." She said. "I need to inform the press."

"Understood." Keisuke nodded, moving down the ramp to the command area and sitting in the chair that Maho had just vacated as his wife returned to the ready room. Keisuke's eyes were firmly glued to the viewscreen and the images being displayed on it, as horrified as everyone else on the ship had to be.

William saw the images Bloody hell, has everyone in the Federation lost their bloody minds. he thought. So many lives lost in the war, now we have Starfleet Officers forgetting their oath to uphold the Articles of the Federation. he sighed and tried to think of what was happening in a more logical way.

In his quarters, Queed was watching the newscast. Seeing the protests kicked in his diplomatic instincts and made him want to go there and try to calm everyone down. Surely there could be some compromise? Once the red alert was called, he suspected there would be a staff meeting called. He left his cabin and made his way to the bridge.

Bree was sitting in her office working on notes when as the captain had ordered, the FNN live feed popped up in the corner of her screen. Surprised to be interrupted involuntarily, her eyes only grew wider as she expanded the size of the screen to get a closer look at what was happening. Confirming the live feed was sent to her on orders from the Bridge, Scott continued to watch.

Slowly, her eyes widened as she took in what she saw, realizing it wasn't a joke, but an actual live feed of protesters over running one of the most significant spaces to her as a member of Starfleet and as a federation citizen. "What the hell?" She asked to no one in particular. Scott wasn't in the habit of talking to herself aloud, but her eyes and her brain was still playing catch-up. Saving her note, she knew she needed to gather her troops and gather with the medical team. Until additional word was received from command, she might as well consult with the department.

In Engineering on the Nikko, Brandon felt the shuddering of the warp core deck plating as the ship took on more and more dampening pressures as they increased their best speed to Earth.

Taking a drink from his coffee and listening to the live communications was nerving while seeing the coffee cup on the console in front of him, slightly jiggling its caffeinated contents. The warp core fluxed as fast as it could under the current situation. They would be there, now almost in time, with the Myogi.

"Lennox, I am counting on you to do everything within your power to get us there as fast as we can." T'Vena said over the combadge of the Nikko's Chief Engineer.

"Yeah, I know." Mark grumbled. "You're lucky repairs have gotten to the point where we can reach warp 8. But don't expect to be hanging here for very long. If any of these patches start to give way, we'll need to drop back down to warp 6."

Shaking his head, Mark sighed and turned to Brandon, having also been listening to the live feed that T'Vena had ordered piped throughout the ship.

"Hell of a day, innit?" He sighed.

Victoria had joined them at some point and while watching the images, had latched onto Brandon's arm unconsciously, "Oh my God..." She said softly, "I can prioritize the structural integrity fields to keep most of the ship intact if we need to, get us to 9... We'd compromise some of the outer frame, but if we need to..."

Back on the Myogi, Takumi and Elisabeth were in the aft lounge, which was fairly crowded as it was handling the traffic from Five Forward while the forward lounge was off limits pending repairs. Captain Takahashi had ordered audio and video of FNN's live coverage at Starfleet Headquarters filtered throughout the ship, and the viewscreen in the aft lounge was one of the screens in which the footage was being displayed.

As Takumi finished cleaning some of the few remaining dirty glasses and replacing them, he set down the wash rag he had been using and tapped his combadge.

"Fujiwara to Sinclair; are you going to need some relief on Helm?" He asked.

The Chief Helmswoman’s voice came over the comms. “Sinclair here. Thanks Takumi, we have a briefing in twenty, and I might not be back right after it. Relieve me then.”

"Affirmative." Takumi said. "Fujiwara out."

Mai Ichihara went straight to sickbay after seeing the news reports. With all of that chaos, there were sure to be injured, including their own people that would surely be sent to help restore order. “Have you seen what’s happening, Doctor?”

"I saw." he said, his voice tight and anger making his eyes hard "I can hardly believe this is happening."

William made his way to sickbay. He sought out Commander Delling, "Sir, when we send a team down, I request permission to be the chief medic. I have experience setting up a casualty collection point."

"When we send a team down it will be under Dr. Erebos as a trauma surgeon. You are welcome to take it up with her, but I will not make direct assignments on her team until we see more of what the situation is." Victor answered after a moment's thought.

In the armoury, Shingen Miyazawa and his best friend Kiyohira Kabuto we’re preemptively getting ready for a deployment. There were no orders yet from lovely lovely Tristana, but the writing was on the wall. If the orders came, they’d need to deploy promptly. If they didn’t, well, there was no harm in a readiness exercise.

He gave the first rifle to Kiyohira. The second would have been his, but he offered it to Kozakura Kikuchi first. “You taking the Type 3, Kiki?”

"You betcha, I like this thing," Kiki took it and did a quick check on the weapon before slinging it over her shoulder, "I hope we don't need to use it, but better safe than sorry, right?"

Tristana was in the brig, standing watch over Iwaki. Normally, she would have been on the bridge, but she had been covering for a junior lieutenant who hadn't been feeling well. She had heard about the attack when the coverage appeared on the brig console. The look on Tristana's face was all that Seiji, sitting on the floor of the brig, needed to know about what was happening, and his lips curled into a smug smile:

"So, Judgement Day begins..." He said aloud.

Tristana shot Seiji a look of visible disgust before giving her combadge a tap.

"Anybody want to watch over the prisoner?" She asked. "I've got a feeling I'm going to be needed on the bridge."

“I have it, ma’am.” This was Kiyohira, rifle in hand, ready to go planetside if needed but equally prepared to stay and guard the prisoner. Besides, he knew his friend, who would have volunteered to please their boss, had to be part of the operation on Earth.

Tristana raised a curious brow at her subordinate showing up to the brig unnecessarily well-armed for guard duty.

"A bit well-armed, aren't we, Petty Officer?" Tristana commented.

“Was actually preparing to go planetside, ma’am,” he replied. “But I don’t think we can be too careful with this one anyway.”

"That's... Forward thinking of you, Petty Officer." Tristana said. "Very well, the guard watch is yours; I'll be on the bridge."

Well best be prepared for the action to come, thought William. I have a feeling things are going to get rough here soon.

Down in engineering, Terry had been left in charge while Pratt and Aries were aboard the Nikko, and the half El Aurian shook his head sadly at the unfolding events displayed for engineering on multiple consoles. Terry was hoping he'd never see something like this again in his lifetime. Yet here it was, happening before Terry's eyes.

Connor could sense the tension among both the crew and was currently happening. "Anything I need to know captain?" Connor asked?

"What you need to know lies in front of you, Ensign." Keisuke responded. "It's on all the major news channels. I'm not sure I've seen an attack on Starfleet Headquarters like this since the Breen attacked when I was a kid..."
