Mission:
Handling the Fallout
Location: Ready Room
Commander Maho Takahashi stood in the USS Myogi's ready room. Just a few weeks prior, the office had belonged to her senpai, Tanaka Miyahara, and she was still a Captain as his Executive Officer. But everything had happened so fast that Maho's head was still spinning as to how they got there.
Maho had been quick to make the ready room her own, adding her personal artifacts to the ready room shelves. However, she did keep a few reminders of senpai around: For instance, the ship's original dedication plaque from it's previous life as the USS Rising Sun remained on the shelf alongside a preserved plank from Miyahara's childhood home. Though Miyahara had taken the real thing with him when he resigned, Maho had the plank replicated and returned to its place on the shelf.
And across from the desk, a portrait of Miyahara in happier times still hung in the ready room; clad in his admiral's coat with a fist over his heart to watch over the ready room for posterity.
As Maho went to sit down at the desk to view the latest news reports, the door to the ready room swooshed open, and in stepped her husband, Keisuke Takahashi; now her rank equal.
"I figured I'd find you here." He said. "Still can't get over the newness of it all?"
"I'm just as shocked about it as you are, babe." Maho responded. "This wasn't supposed to happen; Senpai wasn't supposed to leave us so soon..."
"Hey, hey, don't think like that..." Keisuke said as he noticed tears forming in his wife's eyes. "There's this old saying that goes 'don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.'"
"Thanks, babe..." Maho said, wiping her eyes. "There's no room for us both to be irritated over something."
"Was it that obvious?" Keisuke asked.
"Something's on your mind, dear;" Maho explained. "You have that look in your eye that you get when you're irritated."
Keisuke looked Maho in the eye, then turned away sheepishly.
"I've been thinking back on our wedding day again." Keisuke admitted, cutting straight to the point. "About how that Vulcan had the audacity to ruin our big day because she had it out for our friend!"
"So, what do you plan on doing about it?" Maho asked.
"Well, in a perfect galaxy, I'd track that Vulcan down and vaporize her." Keisuke explained. "However, this isn't a perfect galaxy... That being said, there is another solution..."
"And what would that be?" Maho inquired.
"We do the wedding over; the way we should have done it the first time:" Keisuke elaborated. "We hold it on the Holodeck as a more closed off affair for the crew. We can recreate the venue, same weather conditions and all; have all the guests as holograms, and we can have that perfect wedding Daxer denied us."
"So, you're suggesting that if we don't do it over, Daxer wins?" Maho proposed.
"That's exactly what I'm suggesting!" Keisuke responded. "Think about it; not like we're going anywhere anytime soon, what with the whole crew reassigned."
Maho couldn't help but smile as the genius of Keisuke's proposal hit her: Not only would they be able to get most of the resolution they were seeking, but doing the wedding again would also be a way for them to get to know the new crew in a more informal setting.
"Keisuke Takahashi, you are a genius; and that's why I married you." Maho said.
"Hey, take it easy now," Keisuke replied with a smirk. "Or else we'll have to take this matter into our quarters..."
"Hey, remember who forgot their contraception injection and what happened as a result." Maho teased, placing a hand on her belly.
"Well, you're a real mood killer..." Keisuke playfully grumbled before leaving the ready room.
Maho bit her lip as Keisuke left the ready room. While it certainly went against her professional demeanor; when it was just her and Keisuke, Maho felt it her unofficial duty as his new wife to give him a hard time.
