Mission: Handling the Fallout
Location: Sick bay

After it seemed like there were no interested or available doctors, Maho was surprised that one had finally been assigned to the Myogi. Maho had reached out and scheduled an ultrasound at the new doctor's earliest convenience, and now the day had come: The day when Maho and Keisuke would finally get a first glimpse at the new life forming within Maho's belly. The two of them had left Misono in charge to be together at the appointment. As there was no Third Officer, there was no one to hand off Executive Officer duties to.

"Are you ready, babe?" Keisuke asked.

"Ready as I'll ever be..." Maho muttered as the two of them set foot in sickbay.

Maho made herself comfortable on one of the biobeds in sickbay whilst Keisuke took a seat nearby.

Seeing her patients arrive, F'Rell made her way from her office to the biobed. She serpentined through the air with an ease and grace that would leave many speechless, well, that and the sheer alienness of her form. The long whisker-like tendrils that came out of her face gave a tremble as she began to speak, the translator in her appendage doing its job nearly instantly. "*Greetings, I believe you are here for the holo-imaging ultrasound,*" she intoned pleasantly as she moved to grab a couple of instruments from the table, passing them from appendage to appendage up her long body.

"That is correct." Maho said as she positioned herself to lie down on the biobed, undoing her uniform to expose her belly. "So, tell me; did you heat up the gel that you rub on me? I don't like cold things touching my skin."

"*The device is self-lubricating and remains at a pleasant 37 degrees,*" the translator said as FBR ell gave a shiver of her tendrils, making a pleasant humming sound. "*It may feel warm at first.*"

F'Rell coiled her long body and brought two devices up her body so that her higher appendages held them. Gently she placed both on the captain's bulging stomach and began the scan. A holographic image began to form on the monitor as she began making small circles. "*There, we begin to see the offspring.*"

"You see, Keisuke?" Maho said, indicating the holographic image. "You helped do that."

"Yeah, I suppose so..." Keisuke sighed. "I think it's still too early to determine a gender yet."

"*It is possible to do a genetic scan that should determine the gender, though I have been told some like to leave that to be a surprise until physical signs begin to develop, *" F'Rell intoned as she continued to move the probe over the captain's abdomen.

"Incredible what modern technology's capable of..." Keisuke muttered to himself. "We appreciate your offer, doc; but we'll go that same route:"

"So, is there anything adverse that we should be aware of?" Maho asked.

"*I am detecting no noticeable abnormalities at this stage, *" F'Rell replied with a wiggle of her whiskers. "*However I could do a deeper scan if you wish.*"

"No need to." Maho responded. "Right now, we're not in any kind of life-threatening situation."

"*We can keep an eye on the development and I doubt there will be a problem. All scans show it is perfectly healthy,*" F'Rell intoned, her translator picking up the subtle cues in the vibration of her whiskers to give the impression of happiness in its tone.

"That works." Maho said, sitting up as the appointment came to an end. "So, when do you want to do the next ultrasound?"

"*I should think once a week should be sufficient,*" F'Rell replied as she tucked the probe back into the device and set it to self-cleaning function. "*I think any trauma would require additional scans, but any degree of being careful should keep the child safe.*"

"Very well," Maho said. "Is there any chance while I'm here that I could get my prenatal vitamins refilled? Morning sickness has been hitting rather hard..."

"*Of course,*" F'Rell's translator went on as her long body moved to the medical replicator. She checked the database and turned her head back to the captain. "*I can give it to you in a number of ways, are you partial to any?*"

"Pill form will be just fine," Maho said.

F'Rell nodded her angular head and tapped the panel. A moment later a bottle of pills materialized and grabbing it, F'Rell coiled her long body around and held it out to the captain. "*One in the morning, one in the evening,*" her translator intoned softly. "*If you have any more questions or concerns, day or night, please feel free to contact me.*"

"Thank you very much, doctor:" Maho said, accepting the bottle of pills. "By the way, I don't believe I ever caught your name."

"*I am called F'Rell of the Twelfth House. I am of V'Nai,*" the communicator translated as F'Rell lowered her head slightly and her tendrils vibrated. "*I am here at your service.*"

"It certainly is a pleasure to have you on board, F'Rell." Maho nodded. "Your services will certainly not go unappreciated."

F'Rell inclined her head. "*The pleasure is mine. It is a delight to be able to serve amongst such as yourself, Captain,*" the translator said in its husky tones.

Maho nodded.

"Will the same time next week work for you?" She asked in regards to the next appointment.

"*I will keep the time open for you, pending any unforeseeable incidents. I find it difficult to predict the medical needs of a humanoid crew, *" F'Rell observed, her translator seeming to in tone a smile as she spoke.

"Very well." Maho nodded. "Pending any unforeseen incidents, we shall be back next week for the next ultrasound."

As Maho began to leave, Keisuke turned and gave one final nod to the doc before following his wife out of sickbay.
