Mission:
Captains and Contraband
Location: USS Myogi & USS Kaga
Timeline: After arrival at Rheuys
Captain's log,
With Lieutenant Reno's reassignment to our Starfighter wing, I have suggested to Captain Kaga that we conduct a joint exercise between our ships, to give Lieutenant Reno some ideas on how carrier operations work. Captain Kaga has agreed to this, and says she has quite the itinerary planned for Lieutenants Reno, Kujo, and Amaro.
For Lieutenant Amaro, regaining her carrier certification is an important step in regaining her wings. But if there's one thing that all three Lieutenants stand to learn from this, it's that it's not easy to run a carrier.
End log.
USS Myogi:
Maho stood in the Myogi's transporter room one on deck 6. On her orders, Commander Misono had added a requirement to report to the aforementioned transporter room to the duty rosters of Lieutenants Reno, Kujo, and Amaro. Lieutenant Reno had been further notified on the order that the three of them would be transporting over to the Kaga for a day of field training on board. However, this elaboration had been omitted in the orders sent to Lieutenants Kujo and Amaro.
Now, all that was left was to wait for them to arrive...
Alisha showed up first, uniform trim and prim and proper, of course she'd been convinced that when it came to pilots, they weren't allowed to go anywhere with small craft and especially fighters without flight suits. 'It just wasn't right' had been was Mia had said, but Alisha had kept the standard uniform 'look' to hers, with the blue shoulders. "Captain Takahashi, my pilots should be here momentarily. I had a word with them about punctuality and this is an experiment to see how much of it took."
Maho nodded.
"Captain Kaga's a bit of an acquired taste." She warned. "But she's good at what she does: This is more of a learning exercise for you than our pilots, but they could stand to glean something from this."
"We be gan on a jolly~" Lieutenant Kujo was practically singing as she entered the transporter room with a spring in her step.
"Captain; Alisha," she greeted. "You guys wouldn't happen to know if they'll be serving snacks when we get there?"
A shit-eating grin crossed Maho's face.
"You mean to tell me you haven't eaten yet today, Lieutenant?" She asked.
Karen was about to speak up when her stomach gurgled quite loudly, effectively answering Maho's question.
"Eheheh... I reckon I had that one coming, didn't I?" she chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck.
"Whooo-wee, now THAT was a good breakfast. I'll recommend Ensign Mangini anytime just because he sure knows how to treat a girl!" Mia crowed as she walked in, her flightsuit wrinkled and dusty, a pair of croissants in one hand as she brushed away other crumbs from the front of the uniform. She stopped to take a bite of one of them before moving on, "Sorry, Boss-ladies, thought I had more time."
Alisha gave Maho an apologetic grimace. This was still early in her tenure, but she'd laid down some rules and one of them had been 'Be on time.' Herding cats would have been easier, HAD to be easier than this, "Karen, you can relieve Mia of one of those if it'll help for the time being. Call it punishment for tardiness?" That was rewarded with a hurt look from Mia.
"You'll want to keep your stomachs on the empty side anyway." Maho commented. "Captain Kaga has promised a live field demonstration with the Kaga's Valkyrie starfighters. If her pilots are to be believed, you might not want to go back to Razors after flying them."
"We're gonna be flying Valkyries?!" Karen gasped, her eyes widening with excitement.
"Oh, yes." Maho smirked. "Captain Kaga has agreed to lend some of her spare Valkyries for you to fly. Her pilots would prefer if the exercises you'll be conducting with them occurred with all parties on equal footing."
Mia rubbed her hands in obvious delight. She'd had a ride in one before, but never actually been behind the controls. Alisha, however, blanched slightly, "I'm um... Not qualified on the Valkyrie, though I am on the Razor. Think that the Captain would object to me trying one out still?"
"You'll have to speak with Captain Kaga on that matter:" Maho said, motioning towards the transporter pad as a cue for the three to step onto it. "My understanding is that she has a different curriculum for you than for Kujo and Amaro."
"I can understand that, I'm not up to their standards yet, but I'm working on that. The Lieutenants are running me through exercises and flight sims and having no mercy." Alisha gave a slight smile, following Karen and Mia onto the transporter pad, "I think we're ready to go."
Nodding, Maho turned to the Bajoran woman manning the transporter.
"You may energize when ready." She ordered.
The Bajoran nodded and proceeded to input the commands into her terminal.
"initiating personnel transfer," she announced. "Energize, Zura."
As the transporter powered up, the three Lieutenants disappeared in a shimmer of light as they were enveloped by the transporter beam.
When the Lieutenants could see again, they were standing on a similar transporter pad, but instead of Maho and the Bajoran woman, the Captain awaiting their arrival was a brunette with long light brown hair and hazel eyes, her arms crossed and a disapproving look on her face, and the transporter operator was a Vulcan junior Lieutenant.
"Personnel transfer from Myogi complete, Captain:" The Vulcan woman relayed to the captain.
Nodding, the Captain turned to address her new arrivals.
"Welcome aboard the Kaga, you three." She said sternly. "Which one of you is Lieutenant Reno?"
Alisha stepped forward in the uniform that her pilots had helped her put together and came to attention, "That would be me, Captain Kaga." She had a very neutral look on her face, the less to give away.
Koko nodded.
"Welcome aboard, Lieutenant." She said. "I hope this little excursion will help give you some pointers on how to effectively run Starfighter operations on the Myogi."
"I'm sure it will, ma'am." Alisha agreed, "We may not be a full-up carrier on Myogi, but coordinating flight operations is critical no matter how many craft are involved. I'm also working on becoming fully flight capable on all of the fighters I can, best to become familiar with their capabilities."
Koko nodded.
"An admirable goal, but there's more to running a carrier than just flying the fighters themselves." She said. "A fighter wing is only as good as the shipboard support staff to go along with them, and that's what you're here to learn today. We're by no means an Armitage dreadnought supercarrier, but the Cheyenne has enough to teach the basics of carrier operations."
To be continued...
