Mission: The Next Myogi
Location: USS Myogi (NCC-65918)- Conference Room, Deck 1
Timeline: Approximately 30 Minutes After "The Future Has Arrived"

Captain's log, Captain Maho Takahashi, Starship Myogi:

In a desperate bid to outrun our mysterious assailants, the Myogi has found itself three years in the future. Three years that have been hell on my brother-in-law, who had come to accept that we were likely dead, and was behind the commissioning of my ship's direct successor...

End of log:

"In short:" Ryosuke clasped his hands behind has back and turned to the confused gathering of officers from the late 24th century: "In your now-former present, you and the Starship Akagi were attacked... By Heralds. Since then, the Federation and other powers have been in a constant state of war with the Iconians ever since. The area you know as Sector 811 has been home to the most intense fighting of the conflict- Numerous radiation anomalies have made travel at any speed faster than impulse impossible, ending warp travel as this sector once knew it... As a result, the entire sector has been marked as a navigation hazard, and has become known as the 811 badlands."

Ryosuke clicked over to the next slide in his presentation:

"The anomaly from which you emerged is one of the oldest radiation anomalies in the badlands- perhaps speaking to how intense your fight with the Heralds was." He continued. "It previously was stable until the recent radiation shockwave caused by your warp nacelles knocked out our power. That being said, our priority is to get both Myogis operational as quickly as possible: Our ship should be the easier of the two, as we are merely disabled. Your ship, on the other hand, will require some extra work: Once we can get our main power restored, I can dedicate more of our engineering teams to assist with repairs."

Ryosuke stopped to turn back towards the gathered officers:

"Any questions so far?" He asked.

There was a brief silence before Ichika slowly raised her hand.

"Inuto." Ryosuke called out sharply.

She has a name,” Jane mumbled to herself.

"Do we know if these anomalies have impacted the Iconian's ability to travel at sublight speeds, as well as our own?" Ichika inquired. "Because if not, that could put us at a severe disadvantage."

"The anomalies do have an impact, but not in the way you're probably expecting:" Ryosuke replied. "Thanks to our... Partnership with the Krenim, we know that the radiation anomalies affect the Iconians' very composition."

“How do you mean?” Jane asked. She’d been worried about the navigational difficulties the radiation anomalies would cause, but if they affected Iconians at some more meaningful level…well she might need to learn to fly very close to them.

Ryosuke folded his arms and had an ironic chuckle.

"For all their talk of being unstoppable gods and world killers, they do have one weakness:" Ryosuke elaborated. "Iconians are made up of chroniton particles, and the radiation in the anomalies targets chroniton particles. In short, if an Iconian were to try and come into contact with or move through an anomaly, they would simply cease to exist."

"So, that's why we weren't pursued..." Maho muttered as she felt another abdominal twitch.

“Captain,” Jane said, looking at her own Captain Takahashi. “If the hull is reinforced just right I can hug those chroniton killers. Even if we can’t use the anomalies to take out some Iconians, we can at least buy ourselves time while they take the long way around. Ami, me, and maybe the other Myogi’s ops chief, we can make it work.”

"We can do that," Ami agreed, one arm in a sling because she was by far not the worst off of the crew and she wanted the others seen to first. "We may need to remodulate our shields a fair bit to dampen the effect and if we can affix some additional ablatives?" She nodded at Jane.

"Assuming of course they don't grow wise to our deception." Maho noted. "If it can be done in a manner that's safe to our ship, then we may have to look into the possibility."

Kurumi then spoke up. "It takes a lot of power to generate Chroniton's" She stated simply. "I'm not a science officer. But, I do have one question." She looked up at Keisuke. "If we disappeared thre years ago, then shouldn't we go back to our own timeline? With this knowledge we can get the advantage on the Heralds?"

"That would seem like a logical course of action," Ichika agreed. "Of course, what with the anomalies in this area impacting our ability to use warp speeds, it may inherently make it more difficult for us to utilize traditional methods, such as the slingshot maneuver."

"Cast your army into a place of death, and then they will live; plunge them into a desperate situation, and then they will survive." Kael quoted Sun Tzu. He then asked. "Who else usually roams in these Badlands? Is subspace communication also affected?"

"The amount of radiation has indeed affected subspace communications." Ryosuke confirmed. "At the edges of the badlands, the interference is minimal. However, at our current location, communications to beyond the sector are spotty at best. For all intents and purposes, we must assume that help is not coming, and that we are on our own."

"And the characters that roam out here?" Liz asked.

"Some pirates have taken advantage of the lawlessness that has arisen as a result of the radiation anomalies." Ryosuke elaborated. "But, since they're also limited to impulse speeds, their territorial holdings are quite small."

“What about the physiological and psychological impact of this radiation? Is there anything unique we should know about?“ Bree asked.

"Before they were reclassified last year, the anomalies were referred to by a name you may be familiar with: Temporal rifts." Ryosule explained. "I would suggest you look into the physiological impact of temporal rifts to get an idea of the environs we're working in. Though, I'm sure your data only pertains to the presence of only a small number of anomalies, and not the several thousand that dot this sector like a temporal minefield, where taking the wrong course could lead you anywhere or anywhen."

"Why the reclassification?" Chrirhc asked. It seemed counterintuitive to reclassify temporal rifts to more vague terminology.

"That, unfortunately, has to do with the psychological impact of the anomalies." Ryosuke replied. "It makes one uncomfortable to think of how heavily damaged the spacetime continuum is in just this sector alone. So, Starfleet Command made the decision to reclassify temporal rifts as radiation anomalies. If they sound like a more mundane navigational hazard, they're easier to avoid without a second thought."

"You had mentioned that Starfleet Command made this decision?" Ichika observed. "Are we to assume that there's still a Federation in this future?"

"We still have a Temporal Prime Directive in this future." Ryosuke responded sharply, clasping his hands behind his back. "There is only so much that I am under obligation to share with you. As it is, I am already pondering whether or not I have given you too much future knowledge."

"If you're wondering if you've given us too much future knowledge, why are you even here right now?" Ami asked from where she sat, not pausing, "If we're not going to be let in on things, how can we, a single ship, help out significantly? It's not like we're from sixty years in the past, our technology is probably still within shouting distance at the least of yours and I'd be willing to bet my left arm that you and your chain of command aren't just going to cast us away and let us wander off to die, specifically because you're sitting here talking to us," The half-Trill gestured to Minerva, who had sat there without talking the entire time, "Are you going to let her hard work go off and get killed? Or are you going to upgrade us so we can actually make any sort of difference? To do that, Captain Takahashi, we're going to need to know things about what's going on in the here and now, even if it means taking that knowledge back with us if, and I do mean IF, we get to go back to our own time."

When, Imouto, not if,” Jane said to Ami. “When. Gotta stay positive.”

Ryosuke sighed a long and heavy sigh.

"Fine:" He grumbled. "If you absolutely must know, lest you all turn into salamanders at 0000 hours, I will confirm what the Inuto wants to know: The Federation still exists, but not as any of you might recognize it."

Deciding that now was the best time to take back control of the conversation, Ryosuke turned his attention to his slides:

"Now, as I was saying; our first priority is to get our ship's main power restored." He indicated the model of the Lafayette class Myogi-A. "Once we have our full technology suite available to us again, we will be able to render much greater assistance to your vessel:"

"Um... Ryosuke?" Maho attempted to interject.

"It won't be as pretty as work done at a starbase, but we'll be able to make sufficient repairs, and-!" Ryosuke continued.

"Ryosuke?" Maho asked again.

"What?" Ryosuke snapped with a tone of annoyance.

"I... Think my water just broke." Maho announced, fluid dripping from her chair.

To be continued...
