Mission:
Captains and Contraband
Location: Five Forward
Timeline: After 'A Baby Shower for Baby Takahashi (Part 1)'
Previously, on Star Trek: Myogi:
Maho indicated a table where a photo board was placed, adorned with images of Maho at various ages. At the foot of the board was placed a stack of papers and a good amount of Myogi pens.
"Ooh! I know!" Karen exclaimed, pointing to "image 10," which appeared to be some sort of ultrasound image. "That last image there was from when she was a... a bairn!"
Karen was cut off when Elisabeth suddenly backhanded her in the back of the head.
"Owie... Karen whined, rubbing the back of her head.
"Well, number seven is a bit easier," Jane suggested, pointing to the cadet uniform. "Just need to see how many pips are on that collar." The problem was the angle didn't show that side of her collar clearly. "Huh. Maybe not. Twenty-two maybe?"
And now, the continuation!
Vivienne moved through the corridors with a bag in her hand, heading towards 5 forward. Human traditions for welcoming children into the word were sweet, and she was pleased to be included in the celebrations for the Captain. Her people didn't do things the same way, but Vivienne was definitely not typical of her people.
"Good afternoon." she greeted the grouping of women, surrounding a photo table.
"Glad you could make it, Lieutenant." Maho returned the greeting. "Feel free to take a pen and paper and play guess how old I was." Maho indicated towards the photo table in question.
"Guess how old?" Glancing at the photo panel she saw the first baby picture and chuckled. "Ah. How charming." Vivienne took her gift to the appropriate table first before she took up a pacifier shaped piece of paper and began to write her ideas upon it.
Brennyn was next to arrive, a smile gracing her features and a gift box in both hands. She was so grateful to have something to celebrate and an opportunity to informally interact with members of the crew. The not too distant events of the previous mission were not far from her mind even though it had been nearly 3 months since then. Certainly, many people still bore the scars of those events, not the least of which was a little girl who still barely spoke. Scott tried to take comfort in the slow but steady progress she was making, but even if her head said they were doing all they could to help her, her heart wanted more.
Thinking of the little girl that was yet to be born created another set of mixed feelings for Bree. She was honored to be included in the Captain's regular prenatal care, but the nurturing Bree also wanted to do more and was pleased to be included in the celebration. "Hello, all," the counselor greeted, heading straight for the gift table and not wanting to disturb other activities.
Ami was the last one to arrive and she gave a bright smile to everyone as she did, then a big yawn that showed the probably reason she was a bit later than the rest. This was a festive moment so she wore a shirt and skirt that were in a bright color, in this case it was a grass-green and she gave Maho an apologetic smile.
"Well, now that everyone's here- shall we begin?" Maho asked with a smirk.
Ichika nodded before standing up and clearing her throat.
"I'd like to thank you all for coming to Captain Takahashi's baby shower," she began. "As I'm sure you're all aware by now, the Captain and Second Officer are expecting their first child together- a girl, who is presently on track for a late May delivery. To celebrate the occasion, we're hosting a time-honored rite-of-passage that has been passed down through Human culture for centuries. The main event will center around our presenting of gifts to the proud parents-to-be, but we will also be engaging in a handful of social activities as a means of celebrating the child's life. We'll start off the festivities with a round of drinks, which in addition to providing refreshments will also comprise a small activity intended to get the ball rolling- the rules of which I will elaborate upon as they're being handed out. Seeing as human children do not begin potty-training until the age of at least 18 months, we will then conduct a workshop instructing each of you on how to properly change out disposable underwear, also referred to by humans as a "diaper." After that, we'll then move onto the main event of opening everyone's gifts, followed by a sampler in which you'll be trying several different flavors of food that is manufactured specifically for human infants between the ages of six months and two years. After that, we'll also play a guessing game that will help us in learning how Captain Takahashi's pregnancy has influenced her appetite, and-!"
"Can we sup breast milk right from the Captain's nips?" Karen asked, before quickly getting swatted by Elisabeth.
"No:" Maho responded sharply before taking a deep breath, even if it felt shallow at this late stage in her pregnancy. "I think what Commander Misono is trying to say is that we have a long list of fun activities lined up for you all tonight, and a meal will be served as a gesture of gratitude."
Jane smiled and shook her head at Karen's antics. "Sounds like fun. I've never actually changed a nappy. Good learning opportunity, in case needed in the far future." She squeezed Alisha's hand.
"Think you can handle it, Lieutenant?" Maho asked with a smug grin. "Because once you get the hang of it, blindfolded changing will be next. Adds to the realism of the early morning diaper change."
“Challenge accepted,” Jane said, grinning at the Captain. “Besides, I’ve got industrial grade hand cleaner in the Shuttlebay, so a little mess won’t hurt me!” she added with a laugh.
"Commander, why don't you take everyone's order for the drinks they want to start off with?"
"Certainly, Captain," Ichika smiled before disappearing into the kitchen and re-emerging with a tray of drinks.
