Mission: Captains and Contraband

Captain's log,

The Rheuysian response to the evidence we have brought was... To be expected. Commander Takahashi says the joint session of the Rheuysian Reichstag descended into bickering and name calling once all the evidence was presented, and the Kaiser has rightfully called for a 48 hour recess to allow cooler heads to prevail, and that recess is about to end.

Even more troubling, however, is a discovery that the Kaga made yesterday during Lieutenant Reno's field training excursion: Our fleet mate responded to a distress call from the Rheuysian colony world of Wituu. However, when the Kaga arrived on scene, they found the colony to be completely destroyed.

Captain Kaga suspects foul play, and after reviewing the Kaga's logs with her, all signs point to a possible Elachi incursion...

The Myogi and Kaga were stationed in orbit of Rheuys. For the Myogi, things had been relatively uneventful, watching the white, green, and blue marble below them spin on its axis and fade to darkness, pierced only by the blazing lights of the Rheuysian cities below. However, the Myogi had spent one of those rotations alone, as the Kaga broke off to respond to a distress call from a Rheuysian colony, and had returned in disgrace; arriving too late to render assistance to the doomed colonists.

The differences in morale between the two crews was stark, and Maho had been contemplating pulling some strings to see if Alexis Silverstar could take some time out of her busy schedule to perform for the crew of the Kaga to try and improve their morale.

However, this was still Starfleet, and they still had a job to do:

Maho sat in her seat on the bridge, watching the planet below on the viewscreen. Behind her, the sounds of the turbolift doors opening could be heard as Keisuke stepped out onto the bridge.

"The recess will be ending soon, so we'll be getting the away team back together and shipping out." Keisuke stated as he stepped up to Maho's chair, bending over and giving his wife a peck on the cheek.

"Alright, babe;" Maho responded. "Be safe."

"I've watched Federation Council debates before," Jane observed from the helm station where she kept them in orbit, waiting to be relieved before beaming down with Keisuke, "but they never devolved into that level of personal attacks. At least not that quickly. Is that normal here? Or have we really rocked their political boat?"

"The Rheuysians are a very prideful people:" Chrirhc explained as he locked down the science station he had been using. "Allegations such as these, they've taken as an attack on the very fabric of their people; an attack on institutions they have so relied upon, and form the backbone of their conscription system. What good does having teeth do if your tooth makers are also giving teeth to the enemy?"

"One can only imagine how these talks are going to go now that one of their colonies has been attacked," Commander Anzai speculated. "Of course, it's not beyond the realm of feasibility that such an unprecedented swath of destruction will unite the Rheuysian peoples, but if they're too damn proud to set aside their differences when their very existence hangs in the balance... I'd be lying if I said I didn't have my doubts."

Kurumi sat with her arms crossed as she monitored the surrounding area on the tactical screens. Then her console began beeping. Uncrossing her arms she tapped at the alert. "We have an incoming ship." She said. "Approaching at high warp..." she relaxed a little. "It's got a Starfleet signature."

On the viewscreen a large Galaxy Class Starship dropped out of warp and entered orbit alongside them. "It's the Ermiana Captain." Kurumi said. "Captain Misaka is hailing us."

"On screen:" Maho ordered.

"Fancy seeing you here," Captain Misaka said simply with her arms crossed. She looked directly at Takahashi. "We've got a passenger on board that will be transporting over shortly. Quite frankly, the sooner he's off my ship the better!"

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" The Caitian woman next to Captain Misaka asked. "He specifically said to be transported to the Kaga."

"Is that so?" Misaka said. "I was told to contact you." She shook her head and let out a sigh. "Damn politicians. They change their minds more than we change course!"

"And who is this 'politician' that you're wanting to unload on us, Captain?" Commander Anzai spoke up.

Misaka blinked a few times. "I see he hasn't sent word ahead..." she replied. "It's President Pallis."

The bridge fell deathly silent.

"President Pallis?" Ichika whispered to Maho with a look of concern. "What's he doing here in such short order?"

"Your guess is as good as mine:" Maho whispered back before turning back to Misaka. "I suppose we're the ones who are going to take the flak for this misunderstanding, then?"

"Well Captain?" Misaka said. "Do I contact the Kaga? I haven't got all day."

"Why don't you answer our question first?" Keisuke said. "If we're going to be your fall guys, then yes you need to get ahold of the Kaga."

Misaka scowled at Keisuke. "Captain do you always let your officers show this amount if disrespect?" She asked. "As for your earlier question. I'm not going to publicly announce why such an important part of the Federations government is here, over public unsecured comms." Misaka said simply. "I'll contact the Kaga."

With that the viewscreen went blank showing the Ermiana starting to bank slightly away towards the Kaga.

"Way to go Keisuke." Kurumi said. "Piss off one of Starfleet's most esteemed Captain's..."

"Still, you have to admit, that was a damning non-answer:" Keisuke pointed out. "Misaka totally just ducked the question on whether we're taking the flak for the misunderstanding!"

"Regardless, Commander, I think you could've handled your response a little better," Ichika replied, evidently siding with Kurumi on this matter.

"I agree, babe." Maho added. "You could have at least waited your turn to speak."

"Waited my turn?" Keisuke asked. "That's not how conversations work!"

"On the contrary, there is a certain flow and structure to official Starfleet communications: Flow and structure that you broke." Maho responded. "We'll be having a talk about this later, and I'd suggest you count your blessings that that is the only thing that will come of this infraction, contrary to what Captain Misaka would surely like to see."

"Fine:" Keisuke grumbled. "When we're ready to go back down, send the word."

And without another word, Keisuke turned and made his way to the turbolift, stepping into the waiting turbolift car before anyone could stop him.

"Men, sometimes..." Commander Anzai grumbled before shifting her attention over to Maho. "Should I join him, Captain?"

Maho checked the chronometer on one of the LCARS displays.

"Everyone who's going back should start making their way down to the transporter." She sighed. "Commander Misono and I will deal with Misaka, if she calls back."

"Aye, Captain," Commander Anzai nodded as she got up to leave.

“Aye, Captain,” Jane said, following, a temporary junior officer covering her stations until Takumi could be summoned.

Ami closed down her station as well, leaving the diagnostics that were running to the crew down in engineering, "Feels like we just got back here... But better than dealing with *other* Captains, I suppose." She took a final glance across the bridge before heading to the turbolift herself.

"I suppose that is my cue to go as well." Chrirhc muttered, following his other crewmates to the turbolift.
