Mission:
The Fast & The Fleet
Location: Earth Spacedock, Holosuite 5
Timeline: After 'Let's Race! (part 1)
Previously, on Star Trek: Myogi:
The convoy of vehicles pulled to a stop across from the SpeedStars' vehicles and shut their engines off. The air was soon filled with the sounds of doors opening and closing as the drivers dismounted their vehicles. The doors of the black Skyline GT-R opened, and out stepped Captain Maho Takahashi and Takeshi Nakazato.
"Sorry we're late, Commodore:" Maho said. "The Myogi NightKids are here to kick some ass."
And now, the continuation:
"I wouldn't be so sure of yourself, Captain." Shimakaze responded. "That's quite the interesting entourage you've got there, and is that a motorcycle? Whoever brought that should know not to bring a motorcycle to a car party..."
Their "banter," if you could call it that, was interrupted by the second arrival of the night; a Chase White "Zenki" FD3S, bone stock in what could be the politest sense of the word, glided up to the agreed-upon rendezvous spoint like this were less of a competition and more of an old-world car showcase.
"You know, Captain, it would've just been easier to spawn us at the meet-up spot rather than have us drive out here," Commander Misono lamented as she exited the vehicle. "This is the Holodeck, you know; it's not like it's that hard to reprogram where we spawn."
"I know," Maho said. "But nothing sends chills down your opponent's spine quite like seeing your headlights appear out of the night as you approach."
Maho looked at Shimakaze as she completed her explanation.
Alisha had removed her helmet and swung out her blonde locks as the mention of the motorcycle in a car party was said, but held her tongue for a while, “And if you’ve got such a one-dimensional team, Captain Zh’gero… Road racing isn’t just up to cars and if you don’t have someone that can ride, I’ll go up against any car you want to put up against me.” She put on a smirk that she really didn’t feel. At least if she had to do that, the inside curve was hers.
Next to pull up was Jane Sinclair’s Renault Clio IV Phase 2, painted the same shade of blue-green of her old Interstellar-One racer and stenciled with her number 81. She stepped out, comfortable in her black shirt and blue with white and purple accents jacket and pants she’d worn in training with Karen. She got there in time to see Alisha wave her blonde hair out of her helmet and had to suppress a growl.
She looked to Captain Zh’Gero, gestured to her own eyes and then pointed to the Andorian.
Some of the crew was more into this challenge than others, as demonstrated by one Lieutenant Kujo's arrival; practically screaming around the corner in her R32, she very narrowly sideswiped Maho's car as she pulled into the meetup spot, and then proceeded to leap out of her car and slide across the hood for good measure. Fortunately, her attempts at showboating went up in smoke when she lost her footing and proceeded to faceplant on the hard gravel.
Alisha barely held back a snort of laughter at Karen’s expense, though apparently others didn’t. She crouched down next to her, Karen’s faceplant being only a couple feet from her and reached out to help her back up, “You all right?” She asked jovially, unable to keep the humor out of her voice at least.
"I've had worse falls," Karen chuckled as she picked herself up off the ground and dusted herself off.
"I must say, your flamboyance does need improving, Kujo." Elisabeth smugly commented as she approached her girlfriend.
Jane couldn’t help but grin at Karen, especially after Elisabeth’s comment.
Before more could be said, Commodore Honda stepped forward. As the appointed race official, it was part of her job to bring order to the potentially volatile situation between the two crews.
"Alright, let's lay down some ground rules:" She announced. "Races will be run one on one with the type of race; uphill, downhill, or mixed, and weather conditions being agreed upon ahead of time by participants. Races will start side by side, and whoever reaches the goal first will be the winner. If a finish is too close to call, the race will go into a second round. Any mechanical mishap such as engine failure or a crash shall result in an automatic victory for the other participant. Are there any questions or objections to the rules as stated?"
"No questions here." Shimakaze responded.
"Or here." Maho responded.
Jane raised her hand. “One question here, Commodore. Who is monitoring the integrity of the holodecks?” It was well known that sporting events and other competitions conducted in virtual environments were always subject to unbiased third party monitoring to ensure no one was given an unfair advantage by messing with the holodeck hardware or software. She looked to Captain Zh’Gero and, despite never having met her before, stared daggers, a subtle, unvoiced accusation: I don’t trust you not to cheat.
"Holodeck and holosuite integrity is being monitored by Spacedock Operations. Any attempts by unauthorized parties to modify a holosuite program will trip a silent alarm to Ops who will dispatch security to apprehend the offender." Tohru explained. "Any other questions?"
Jane nodded after the explanation, satisfied with it. It was pretty unlikely that someone could compromise the holodeck out of view of Spacedock Ops.
Maho looked at Shimakaze.
"Well, shall we get started, then?" She asked.
"On the contrary, Captain;" Shimakaze responded. "Before we settle our score, I would like to see how much your crew grasps the concepts of the sport. As such, I would like to save our shootout until last. Will that be acceptable, Commodore?"
Tohru nodded in response.
"Then the battle between Captains Zh'gero and Takahashi will be last." Tohru said. "Unless you have any objections, Captain Takahashi?"
"No objections, Commodore." Maho responded.
"It is decided, then." Tohru nodded. "Alright, people, clear the starting line! Let's get the first two competitors lined up!"
